Buschur Racing Car & Driver Super Four Challenge!
Personally, I find the unlimited budget builds nice, but the average person is never going to reach that level. My vote is for the budget build. It would be nice to see how a reasonably modded Evo does in the test, and to know I could feasibly get there in the future. My bet is that the Evo would do well anyway, since it is an amazing car for the money. Then again, you have a business to represent...
What are you guys planning on doing for the suspension/brakes/wheels? We all know you're going to make mondo power but it'll be hard to compete with a 2000lb supercharged Lotus Elise.
Call up the boys at Performance Friction and Stoptech to get the meanest brake setup available! You mentioned you had wheels in mind but the Enkei RPF1's are much lighter than anything in their price range I'd give them a thought. I don't think there is a better tire than the stock Advans unless C&D is going to be dishing out R-Compound rubber.
Wish I knew more about Evo8 suspensions but I don't. Something adjustable would be nice to be able to change the setup for drag and circuit. Too bad Ohlins doesn't make a full race rig for the Evo.

You want to see what a budget build can do then go to www.buschurracing.com and look it up. All the stages are listed with whp and potential 1/4 mile times.

David, from my perspective and understanding your business centers on the quarter mile and straight line high perf street people. If you would win the 1/4 mile part of the event what else really matters? As you know I am a road course person but I do not make my living at it. To me it seems to be a no brainer.
just a bit of info in the last super flea challenge... an s2000 won, but a vishnu stage 1+ evo with like 4 mods was very very close to the winning s2000. 1/2 of the cars will be ff so they will have no chance in the 1/4 mile portion.
btw in response to the evo having no chance agianst turbo vipers in the 1/4 mile portion of the main super tuner challenge.... vishnu's evo had the fastest 1/4 mile time of any car at the event including turbo vipers.. etc. and this was done on 93 octane gas.
a well modded elise will be a good competitor though.. it should be fun.

Could one of you fine outstanding moderators do it for me? Change the topic to read Super Four Challenge instead of Super tuner?
If so thanks, if not......I'll send a hitman

1 or 2 tough choice
Look at last years EVO invitee. Probably will return again C/D wants two of each car. What were their good point points and what opputunities did they need to overcome. Make your car very fast, boost should come on about 3500 no more than that, reliable and do not break the noise restriction.
With all the experience you have with the DSM you are an excellent choice for this challenge. Most people will buy yor parts if C/D gives it the 4 stars for ease of driving rating.
During the first series C/D said one of the EVO's had power that reminded them of an AMG merc. That's the kind of car most of us want andt hats the kind of cars that you will be up against. Callaway, Rennsports, Roush, and many others make very fast easy to drive reliable cars (just like you do). We all want our cars to last not make the most peak hp.
If you want to know what happens to an EVO with lots of power and tough to use as a daily driver look at the FQ 400 againt the Lambo video. FQ very fast on the boost, tough to drive to work. I want my EVO scary fast with linear power delivery.

I am reading and reading this thread, and one thing that seems to escape a few of our members, is that you can't run high boost pressure on pump gas. If you do run high boost, i.e. north of 20psi, say hello to detonation. I have seen how you can controll that to some extent with a very efficient A2W intercooler.
Also, a linear power delivery is in the realm of displacement above 2.5L.
On smaller displacement engines you want 2 things as far as drivabilety, onset of power to be smooth, (smooth and linear isnt the same) and you want response in your system.
If you look at some of the drift cars with smaller engines, such as the ae86 using a 1.6-1.8L 20 valve 4age, when they turbo charge those puppies, they use ITB's to maximize the TB response.
At this last GT live event in Fontana, I was fortunate enough to talk to the Wedsport team that ran the blue and yellow rwd Celica. I talked a bit about their engine with their engineer, and too both they use the very similar engine (3sgte), and what do you know ITB's! I asked why, and he replied that in order to get the engine responsive to throttle input, and maximize TQ output early in the powerband, he continued and said that on a road race type vehicle, you are battling the same issues as an NA engine, and even if you are turbo charged, the principles for engine reponse is very similar at partial TB input.
I dont want to tell you what to do, but my suggestion would be a 2L that can rev high (past 8K) Use a gt3071r/gt3076 type turbo, ITB's(I have several pictures and designs for this on the 4age and 3sgte if you are interrested)
Aerodynamics as mentioned start to play a role when you pass 120mph, so run with a modest wing, smaller than stock (less drag) You are not going to negate any hard turns at this test anyhow.
Splitter in front that extends under the front, and a rear diffuser of some sort.
I know you probably already have most of this planned, I am just going off on top of my head here.
all the best to you though!!!

From, one stoplight Wakeman, Ohio, all the way to Michigan to compete with the best in the world. Did you ever think when you started fabbing parts for your old talon that you would end up here? (you probably did you cocky SOB) Good luck bro!

apexernsx,
While we are well known for our drag racing, as that has been my passion in years past, we have done a lot with road racing/autocrossers over the years. We backed Dennis Grant who was a multiple national SCCA Autocross champion and have helped tons of road racers over the years. We have never advertised all of this much which is probably a marketing down fall that we have had for a long time. Winning just the 1/4 mile portion would be a complete failure at an event like this. I'd be embarrassed if that is what I brought to the table.
Vishnu EVO8,
The first year that they had this event it was a joke. Nobody brought anything to the table as far as I am concerned. The event against the Vipers and such Shiv's car wa much more modified that the first event. You can expect the group of 4 cylinders that come this year to bring some serious equipment.
Thanks for the edit fourdoor. The poll is fine, I had edited it right after posting it. Thanks again.
TomG,
I have pointed that out a few times already. That is why I keep also saying I would like an octane test done. I would bet big money there has been some cheating in the past and if I show up to play fair I want everyone doing the same thing. We will be looking over some cars this year really hard.
evomojo,
Who'd of thunk it? Looking back now almost 16 years ago I needed a place to mount a boost gauge in my Talon. I built a plate that went in the a/c vent as back then there were no a-pillar mounts and such. Some guy saw it at the track and freaked out, wanted to know what option that was so he could get one. I made a few more and it caught on. Soon I was laser cutting them to keep up. That's what started it all. As with most of the things I have done within a year or two another company compied these gauge panel mounts and I got so pissed I quite making them. Wasn't going to undersell what I developed to compete with these low life scum bags. Not much has changed in 16 years. I'm still just some guy from Wakeman, Ohio with our one stop light that likes to build fast cars, that's all I see myself being.
Huge honor to be involved in this event, huge.
