Thanks for all the responses guys.

Guess what, I just noticed that my brake fluid level is about 1/4 inch below max. I just filled it up with the valvoline stuff. Right now the car is shifting alright but, the real test will be tommorow morning when everything is cool.

Now I'm paranoid that I'm losing brake fluid. I never changed my pads or bled the system. I had a clutch installed by a shop. Is it possible that they didn't top it off properly or do they not drain that fluid during the install?

Highly possible that there was air in the system somewhere after the install and the fluid was never checked during a follow up.

I'm with AMS. I have broken several shift forks on the 2g AWD's however was never able to "disengage" them again.

-edit- now that I read the post further. Maybe a master/slave cylinder leakage. I would flush the system totally and refill it.

the stock shifter rod is different than many other dsm linkage in that it's long enough to accomodate aftermarket shifter, where the auto adjustment could be made and engagement could be made by adjusting the master cylinder rod. The problem is getting the hydralic oil in when you lift and push in the master cylinder rod. There's no problem with the Evo's, unlike DSm's where you have to have a longer extension rod.

Gears generally lock due to having your gear broken in transmission or your gear shift linkage is broken.

If you saw metal shaving when you changed the fluid, you could sorta guestimate that there's something wrong with the transmission or the clutch.

but if you didn't have a large amount of metal shaving, then you could assess that there is something wrong with your gear shift linkage or the shift linkage...

hope you get that sort out.

Thanks for the continued support guys.

The topping off the brake fluid didn't help at all.

There are no metal shavings on the drain plug or in the tranny oil.

Just to clarify once again: The condition gets better as the day, almost none exsistent by noon, which drives me crazy!

I contacted Jon @ tre and he thinks that its a clutch related issue. I'm sending my tranny+t-case in a couple of weeks becuase of my 2nd/5th gear grind. I will purchase a new clutch and flush the system afterwards. I know that this is overkill but I need a rebuild either way. Now I just really want to know out of curiousity.

PLOKIVOS: are you talking about the linkages that connect to the actual shifter?

MAN Mine did that crap coming off the highway. I tryed pulling it out of 5th GEAR and it would do it. came to a dead stock and tried again. Nothing. 3rd problem with the tranny. Engine = no problem. tranny = gayness!
