1st gen eclipse

I know this is off topic but i trust Evo guys knowledge.

My friend bought a 1st generation eclipse (4g63)for 1g. It does not start (it cranks and turns over). He is a mechanic so we know its getting fuel and NOT spark. Do you guys know what it could be?

It could be a bad MFI relay, coil pack or a toasted ECU I've seen all three before.

The previous owner said that the car stop working after he removed the radio. Could this mean something?

It sounds like an ECU to me as well. My '92 did that. It would crank and crank and crank but wouldnt turn over. Tried to get it started with some starting fluid and still nothing. Threw another ECU in it and she fired right up.

ecu or coil pack. chances are it's the ecu, but check all your connections to your coil pack. I had a similar problem when to plug worked itself loose and subsequently fell off.

get a wiring diagram and see if the ecu is sending the voltage out the wire that goes to the power transistor. This is usually the cap issue in the ecu.

I have a spare 1G ecu that works, if you need one.

Check the fuses! Can't hurt anything to check. It could be a real simple solution.
