P0300 after 22k miles?

I have an 03 and never had an issue with the P0300 bug, until now.

I was driving home from work today and got off the highway and was sitting at the red light and my SES light came on. Went and read the code and it was P0300. The code stayed on while idleing and driving to AutoZone to read the code.

I adjusted my cam gears on Saturday (about 50mi ago) and that is the only thing I can think of that would cause this. They were set at 0/0 but now at -1/-4

Any suggestion as to why it would come on after 22k miles???

It's just weird. I did a search for P0300 and people are saying that it goes into 'limp mode' when the light comes on. However, mine feels the same. I didn't boost, but off-boost feels the same.

I have the Fidanza cam gears and on mine it didn't say which way was negative. Would accidently going +1/+4 cause my 272/272 combo to have weird overlap that could be interrpreted as a P0300?

I'm thinking it has to do with my new cam settings. Can anyone confirm? I'll re-adjust them tomorrow to see if that deletes the code.

The change in cam gears could definitely be part of why you're seeing this. Not all Evos do this, but it seems the further you vary from stock cam timing and ignition timing, the more likely you are to see this code.

I've done alot of testing and the things that seem to affect this most on my car are: gas quality, spark plug condition, and cam gear and ignition timing settings.

Same happened to me @ 16k. no limp mode though. turned it off. 200 miles later the code came back. changed plugs - 10k later, no CEL.

I had the same thing happen, cel light but no driveability issues even in boost. The car feels great as normal, but the damn cel has me worried. This has happened a few time in the past after i put a full exhaust on but the light shut off on its own. I jusy had cams put in and a flash done and he next day the cel came on, i went to autozone and looked itup again and had it cleared and it came on the next day. I am at 25k miles and am a little worried, i havent changed plugs yet, so that is my next step. Any other ideas???

What plugs should i get to replace the stock ones in this case (sorry for the offtopic).

thanks for the help.

I have NGK BPR8ES's in my room. I have Denso Iridiums in there now. I was waiting to change them out until right before I got tuned so I would have new spark plugs in there, but I guess I will throw them in there
