I just got mine in and have about 160 miles on it so far, so far so good. Killed it like 20 times also, heh. How many miles did you guys put in for "break in"? I know some say it's not needed, but should I just do 500 and call it good?

I think the biggest variable in clutch life is the driver, and how much (and what RPM) they slip the clutch at launch. The higher RPM, and the longer the clutch is slipped, the quicker material will wear. Think of a disc sander... how much material is removed at 3K RPM versus 7K RPM (I don't know what the RPM range of a disc sand really is).

How many passes did the stock clutch last Joey?

Let me ask you this Joy, how long did the stock one lasted you?
My stock one laste me 26,000 miles with about 80 track passes on it. And the car was making over 330 Tq. must of that time!
I just can't believe this clutch is only going to be good for lass than a year!

Anyone have any problems breaking up while doing WOT shifts? I shift, engage the next gear and it breaks up for like 1-2 seconds then goes, think it's the Tilton?

If it's breaking up during high rpm shifts it's slipping. Not sure withe the ceramics but with the carbon if it's not hot mine slips like mad and the car will break up real bad, but once you heat it up with a couple of slips it holds like mad.

I've only had this thing for 3k miles, 1 launch, and not much racing.

Ummm, kinda back from the dead. Can anyone shed some more light on the life span of their Tilton twin cerametallic? Also how other parts have held up since the install of it. i.e. TC's, tranny's, ect. Good info in here for those who have not read this thread yet. Thanks for this thread.

How many passes did the stock clutch last Joey?
Back here again, this time with much more experience about the unit (Tilton).

This thread is old and long, and I am not going to read it all over again to re-cap on what has been sayed. It is a good thread that Joy made.

The Hybrid, cerametallic/organic lasted me ~14,000 miles. Of those, I made ~9 track passes on the stock turbo with 360whp and 380tq on a Mustang, at 116+ mph.
I found out that the spacer plates are made to wear, and their lifespan is rated between 10,000 and 14,000 miles. The Tilton is a Racing Clutch and designed this way. I was very easy on it. I broke it in for 1,700 miles before taking it above 6, 000 rpms.
Also found out more, read on...

After the Hybrid started to slip, at above 30 psi, it got worse every day. Until it sliped at the touch of the gas. From when it started to slip a little to alot was about 4 weeks, easy driving with boost lowered and controlled at 14 psi not to kill it fast.

The good thing about this clutch that many don't know, is that it can be re-built for little money and this can be done 2 or three times. So the initial cost is offset by the opportunity to re-use it many times. Parts needed for the re built are: Pressure Plate, 2 Disks, Separation Plate. Check and re-surfase flywheel to spec as necessary.

I found out there are 2 different parts for the replacement disks. The older version has silver, weaker splines. The newer part has black splines and they are stronger. You can use either disks, but I would go with the up-dated parts. Tilton also updated the clutch with now higher torque rating.

I now converted my Hybrid to full twin ceramic. It is ruffer on the start and while shifting between gears, and makes more chirp sounds on engagement, but I like it better.
This one has ~6, 600 miles on it. About 10 track passes, the car now makes over 420whp and ovr 420tq on the same Mustang Dyno and runs over 120 mph.

My car has now 47, 000 miles and drives good with no damage to the driving parts or engine.

I hope this latest review helps a little. I am glad I had the opportunity to share my experience with some of you again, .

I personally recommend the Tilton clutch.

Other than just having friends who run it on their high horsepower cars, it has held up great.

Ive had the twin cerametallic since i was stock with a reflash- 2-3 track passes with a xx # of launches. Never gave any problems.

Now with over 500 hp it drives like brand new still. With aggressive driving here and there.

I dont really mind chatter and the noise, so in my case its just what i was looking for. It is a very aggressive clutch set up by the way. I tend to not shift very hard and have slipped the clutch countless times on launches.
