noob question, BOV flutter...

So, the original owner of my car put in a JDM MR BOV, and I assumed how he had it set up was probably good. But, then I started reading about flutter, and how it could be bad...so I want to know, is my car set-up bad, and can I set it up better?

My BOV flutters under partial throttle, which, when accelerating hard, but not WOT, makes the car lurch foreward and back and whatnot...just kinda choppy accel.

Holds boost fine, builds boost great (26psi by 3200rpm!) but the partial throttle flutter has me wondering....

tips?

if your running the jdm mr bov then it should not jerk because it should drive just like stock the flutter doesnt matter most bov will do it at partial throtthle as long as it doesnt flutter when the gas is flored u shoudl be good.

26psi???? You must be talking about 5th gear if you hit full boost by 3200, and if you are doing 26psi, I hope that means you are running alky injection, right? The bucking is compressor surge, which is caused by building low boost at part-throttle then letting off. It is most pronounced in top gear. Do you have this happen in low gears, too?

it happens a bit in low gears...and no flutter at WOT....and yes I have alky....and yes, 26psi at 3200 was in 5th.

So I'm fine then?

I have the exact same behavior with my aftermarket recirc BOV even with min spring tension at lower boost, no alcohol. I just drive it differently for now until I figure out a simple sollution.

FYI- even when accelerating in lower gears, then letting off the gas to shift, it'll flutter instead of woosh....still ok?

I am experiencing the same thing running 27 psi with alky. When going WOT in fifth gear, it does it as boost builds. Almost sounds like the valve is leaking. It does it with the MR DV, Forge RS, and the newly purchased APS BOV. Could someone help in identifying what it is? Is it surging, fluttering, normal, or something else? Thanks.

No offense, but the BOV is installed correctly, right? I've heard that if they're installed backwards (which isn't too hard to do), the bov will flutter when you let off the gas...

Thread below has a pic of a correctly installed bov.

yeah i think your BOV is in backwards, it will flutter like crazy if its backwards, in the right way you should get no flutter.
