Last time I checked with ACPT, they were having trouble finding someone to make the metal ends of the driveshafts. James said he was considering doing everything himself, since he was having a hard time finding a partner for the parts other than the carbon driveshaft.

He also mentioned that he can (and has) made custom carbon fiber driveshfts using the OEM pieces. Price on that is approx. $1500, plus he needs an OEM driveshaft.

He should just do this instead of waiting another year to try and find someone to develope the pieces.

I don't understand why this would be more expensive than the projected price of the complete shaft though, if a core is provided by the buyer...

I don't think the OE ends will work for a one piece shaft... the working angles may be too great. I'd be leary of that.

Yes, for many other vehicles. I am aware of this, but not for this particular application... I am literate, to say the least...

KOEvo, the OEM shaft is 3-pieces, not one, so they are both right. If you hack up a stocker, you can use oem pieces like atlvalet said, but if you want to convert it to one piece, which ACPT is trying to do, then you need a higher quality u-joint, like zeus said.

I worked with James @ ACPT a few months back, I have had the 1 piece carbon drive shaft on my MR for some time now. It works great but not at all for a street car. My car is a full drag car and some modification was needed for proper fitment. First, all the carrier bearing brackets must be cut off/removed, and some parts of the tunnel will need to be hammered for clearance. You will need solid or urethane rear diff and motor mounts, with the torque of the drivetrain under load the shaft can rub on the tunnel, mainly after letting up at high RPM after finishing the 1/4. Car will be running again with the new setup in february hopefully.
thanks

That's a shame as the majority of the Evo market belongs to daily drivers... I hope this is not the end of this.

A two piece design might be in order as I can't see a company leaving that much money on the table. The Evo crowd is like the Supra crowd but worse in that respect. Like the Supra crowd, they want their "...cake and eat it too...", but with a double scoop of ice cream on top at half the price. However, there are a lot more of the Evo guys spending money these days. Guess it's back to looking for vendors to "fit the bill".

The fact is not all of us can afford to have two cars, one for play and the other for daily driving, so we pick the best of both worlds

Zeus is saying that it's a shame the driveshaft is only for race cars; not "it's a shame most of the evos are daily drivers"...

Yeah, If it's as big a pain in the *** as it sounds, then I'm out. I'd be willing to pay a little more for a 2-piece if it alleviated the problems experienced by DOOMID, but I want to be able to drive my car on the street without worrying about **** rubbing on the fuel tank.
