EVO IX Dyno Thread

If you own an EVO IX and you have had your car dynoed with or without mods, please list the numbers your IX achieved and where it was dynoed at. Also if your IX was modded, please list the mods and who tuned your car if it was tuned?

OK, I'll comply

I'll oblige for what it's worth

Probably not too much b/c not too many people have dynoed at this particular facility:

Curry's Auto Service
Dulles, VA

They have a Mustang dyno, but it obviously reads higher than most ...

I did 3 pulls on my bone stock IX MR with 1200 miles. The first one was a warm up I guess:

whp/wtq
239.9/235.8
251.1/240.6
252.3/243.8

Here's a pic of the printout from the best run:

This is really only interesting to me as a baseline as I plan on getting tuned shortly. But since you asked and even bumped yourself ...

edit:

I have two references for this dyno:

1) supposedly one of the employee's STi baselined in the 240s whp/wtq
2) dcevoclub.com member 'Pure Evo' dynoed at 280whp/308wtq there with intake, exhaust, boost control and Dynoflash on a 2003 evo

Is that number converted from DD to Dynojet? Cause I can't see 295AWHP on a DynoDynmaics. That's like almost 350AWHP on a dynojet.

No conversion. The IX is just a beast with a custom tune + TBE even on 91 octane

Exhaust, yes. Cams, no. Intake, yes but not recommended.
Suspension upgrades, yes.

Sorry, but there is something irregular about that. An Evo IX can't have 350WHP with just a tune and exhaust. My numbers on that dyno were 244AWHP with exhaust and tune. That's 50AWHP more on a DD, which is about 80WHP on a dynojet. Either the IX has something extraordinary with it's MVEC+turbo wheel, or my car wasn't tuned to the best that it could be.

Suddenly, now I'm not such a strong believer in dyno numbers any longer..

Edit: Ahha! I just realized something. With that MVEC, it's like an EVO 8 with cams and cam gears.. Assuming that, then yea, I can clearly see this being the case.

The IX turbo has proven to be a decent improvement over the VIII turbo, in addition the MIVEC allows the tuners to get boost to come in sooner. All of this equates to performance of the VIII with the addition of cam gears and cams.

Ive run my brothers car (VIII) side by side and the difference is just plain silly now where boost comes in. The IX leaps out ahead right off the bat and there is no catching up depsite the same peak AWHP figures on both cars.

Its a matter of time before the MIVEC is installed into VIII cars. I have cash in hand waiting for someone to slap a larger turbo of the IX. 295 AWHP is only satisfying for a few weeks at best

Your turbo wheel is lighter. Of course it will spool up faster. I wouldn't say the difference is silly though. Both cars IX and VIII become equal once you change the turbos in the car.

Its a matter of time before the MIVEC is installed into VIII cars.
Why would anyone put the MIVEC inside an EVO 8 and lose the computer? It would an expensive and costly addon and for what? You can get just as much power (if not more) on a properly equipped EVO 8 with cams/cam gears and a good tune.

I have cash in hand waiting for someone to slap a larger turbo of the IX. 295 AWHP is only satisfying for a few weeks at best
And what's the difference then with an EVO 8 with the same turbo, same tune, and cams/cam gears?

From what I've read, it seems the IX is a great ride for getting a lot of power with minimal mods and keeping your warranty. Once both cars change turbos, cams/cam gears, etc.. we are back to the same EVO again.

Exactly and nobody really is saying anything more. If your on a really tight budget and looking for pretty good power, then the IX is a dream car. If you really are serious about making really big power, then the IX is really no different than all EVOs, and all EVOs are equally awesome cars. Now stay on topic please?
