limey,

Thanks. That’s too bad, I was hoping that you went through with it. Just wanted to know what kind of difference it will make. I’m sure it will make a difference, just nice to hear it directly from someone that has done it. It won’t be long before someone does it.

well...when it comes to cars or anything else built by human hands u will have faulty stuff...on average about 5% of car owners have problems or some kind...most r simple as the power window guide broke like in my car....about 1-3% have major problems...so i am not suprised by a few people having problems but if we get dozens of people like they do with WRX trannies then i will worry

all I have to say is you reap what you sow, if you have been doing hard launches before the 1k mile break-in got you a broken tranny. Can anyone here with the tranny whine say that they went all the way thru the suggested 1k break-in on their cars. Fat chance getting a new tranny. Read the warranty!

is this from the evolution manual itself? I don't have mine in front of me but I know a rule of thumb is most cars need 1k miles to break-in properly.

I dont have an evo either but everyone I know takes it to 600 miles for break-in. I remember it being posted on here a couple months back. I assume since everyone is going to 600 that maybe it's in the manual.

I'll bet dollars to donut holes transmissions aren't replaced. They will fix the car and send it right back on its way. Can anyone confirm what the manual says for break-in? I know its not 6k clutch drops thats for sure. $30k car with a broken tranny in 500 miles

Leave it up to

well, I'm not crazy........Mine started about 450 600 miles. I posted this earlier in March. It sounds to me like clutch or press plate......something is apparently binding up. Not to scare anyone, but I get the feeling this is going to be pretty common.
I don't know if this Is usefull, but here it goes.....

If you rev to 2k before letting out of 1st, the tranny is much smoother.......and I don't hear the noise when down shifting to 3rd with no throttle. Maybe it's me, but that is not normal.
30k car + bad trans = we got screwed.....

one positive thing - those adjustable lights work fine.....

You have NO clue what you are talking about....That's 3 posts I have read from you....and I have yet to find a shred of intelligence in any one of them

No....I was not doing 6k clutch drops.....that would ruin the car

No....The break in period is not 1000 miles it's 600 miles....how many times have we heard that?

Yes....Mitsubishi did REPLACE my transmission, I verified the old one sitting on the floor when I picked the car up

No.....the gearbox is NOT weaker because you did not run it carefully up to this magic figure of 1000 miles like you claim.

Yes......I did leave it up to Mitsubishi,...and they fixed the problem,...quickly and properly,....

limey,

Please keep us updated on the progress with the new tranny.

Is there any difference in sounds? Engagement?

Thanks,

Derek

Tranny is fine much quieter....there was never any problems engaging the old cogs...my beef was the awful metalic grinding noise it was making....obviously faulty from new...this was confirmed by bits in the trans oil....anyway I will post if there is any changes and keep you informed

limey I was not directing my comments towards you, I was directing my comments towards the likes of 1QWKEVO who has documented his high RPM clutch drops on video with only 500 miles on the car.
