BLOWN Motor Part 3 (DECISION)
BLOWN Motor Part 3 (DECISION)
*********DECISION FROM MITSUBISHI*********
Just talked to the service manager, who talked to the district representative, who got this information from Mitsubishi:
They are DENYING the warranty work due to "PRE-DETONATION".
My first comment was, "there is no such thing as pre-detonation. Its either pre-ignition or detonation. "
Who's seen 'Malibu's Most Wanted'??? "I got Game Cast." , "uh, its either Game Cube, or Dream Cast, whatchu got?" "I SAID GAME CAST MOTHER F*CKER"
..Anyway, atleast Mistu did not care about anything to do with over-revving (which did NOT happen anyway).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but does anyone else see any signs of Detonation there??? Pre-ignition??? I'm about to eat a $15,000 bill.. would like to make sure its legit.

sorry to hear this Stew, but I had a feeling mitsu was going to go this way.
Now if I am correct you are responsable to pay for the labor for the tear down and diagnosis at a minimum.

I don't see signs of detonation, but I'll be honest with you, you were never getting this covered under warranty from the second you brought it to the dealer. They could have found a crack in your oil pump housing that caused the loss of pressure, it still wouldn't have mattered.

I would look into seeing if your insurance company would help pay for comprehensive coverage. i had my insurance company pay me 4500 for sucking up water into my engine via CAI. something to look into. empty mouths dont get fed. I've been following the threads and my sympthany goes out to ya. now its time to start looking at getting it fixed and you back on the road.

Also, I'm not sure I'd trust the dealer to do a large/difficult, detail oriented task. I'd say if you get Mitsu to cover it somehow, you should just trade in the car. They will find a way to screw something up, and the last thing you want are more headaches after getting the car back "fixed." If you fix it, get it done at a reputable Evo shop.
Them trying to charge you $15,000 to re-build your motor should tell you something. As someone state earlier. Purchase a fully build motor from one of the many great vendors on this forum. Mitsubishi can barely change your oil properly. Let alone re-build a motor properly. For that kind of money you should be able to get a build motor and a turbo kit for the car.
You're powertrain warranty is going to be completely naught at this point, so I see no reason to allow the dealer to do anything further.
I wouldn't fight it. Chances are you'll pay a lot and end up with nothing. It won't cost you anywhere near $15k to get going again, better, stronger, faster . . . (where have I heard that before??).
Have the car towed to a reputable shop. The toughest thing will be to come up with a rebuildable motor (for core parts return if nothing else), but once you've done that, the worst is over. There will obviously be costs involved, but you'll get a lot more for a lot less than you would by paying the dealer to install factory parts.

Either fight better with them, as it takes a lot of arguing, we had to call reps in Cali so many times in order to get my TCase replaced. I know that is different but still.
And if not, don't be a tool and pay 15k. That makes no sense where 15k comes from. Buy a used head and block here, and if the head is fine then bottom end. If not spend the I think it is 1750 for the core charge for the block from AMS or buschur. Then the 2200 or 2800 for the built 2.0 or 2.3. And for the head I think the core is like 800.
Thats no where near 15k, and hell with labor you could pay 200 and hour and still be under that 15k lol. If you want give me the 15k and I will put a brand new motor in your car. And if you need a tranny too Shep sells a built stage3 trans I think for 3300 that includes the tranny.

Stew, Contact D.M.V. about this B.S. claim of detonation and make Mitsu prove that Detonation caused your motor to EXPIRE,just make sure that you go down to the Dealer and get those spark plugs, because from the pictures the plugs do not show any signs of Detonation,it is only a SCAPEGOAT for mitsubishi at this time to make those claims.Like SUPERHATCH said, you could have had a crack in your oil pump and they would claim that.
Ask them in this day and age of technology why their wonderful ECU could not pick up detonation and adjust timing for it?,sounds like a B.s. claim to me.....

Take it somewhere else. Good luck with the rebuild
