for people with experince

between the evo 8 and 9 turbo. does the 9 turbo spool faster or slower then the 8 turbo.

does it hit full boost sooner or later the the 8 turbo. how much later???

does it tapper boost as much, less, or more then the 8 turbo??? if it tappers how bad iis it. what kind of boost are you holding at redline. what boost are you running.

thanks

No. The turbo's flow characteristics are almost identical. Any extra air flow will compensated automatically be the MAF sensor + ECU adjusting the fuel levels. You may want to stick in a better fuel pump if you are running cams or higher boost. A custom flash is always a good idea to extract more power, but in this case it is not required.

Thanks! I already have a flash by Jestr, but I was wondering if I would need another re-flash after going from a Evo8 to Evo9 turbo.

I guess from what you said, there might be small gains, but most will be auto-compensated by the ECU anyway.

This is a common misconception. I have 272/272s and with a proper tune and cam gear settings you will not lose anything. In fact I gained everywhere in the powerband. Of course my idle is a bit choppy because of the cam gear settings. (+1/-1)

HKS 272/272's at 0/0 idle pretty well. I tuned a car last night with buddy club 272/272's and cam gears at -2/-3. When it came to me it was a little choppy. After I tuned it via a flash it purrs like a kitten. It's not really a big secret on how to make them idle well, although every car is a little different. Ign timing changes and idle RPM changes can go a long way to making a smooth idle.

1000! who the heck are you buying from? new ones are around 6-650 or you can find used ones for much cheaper.

It is better but not night and day, maybe 20WHP. I would reccomend atleast a 50trim if you are yanking your turbo off.

I'm not sure I understand how spool-up can be better with an Evo9 turbo compared to an Evo8 turbo given that they both have identical compressors and the 9 has a 7% larger nozzle area..

Spoolup is not better - the better spool on IXs comes from the MIVEC. The IX turbo alone has a little slower spool.

I just finished putting mine in and came by from the dyno.

It is incredible how much FASTER the evo 9 turbo spools up over the 8. that is the first thing i felt. and the power transition is much smoother, and it holds more boost to redline. i love this turbo!

Hmmmmm....... So you are saying on a non-mivec EVO the 9 turbo spools faster than the 8 turbo?

That's what is reported in this post as well:
