Broken Thermostat. frozen on C

My whip just got back on the road after sitting all winter. Now my temp gauge stays on cold and moves up every couple minutes but falls. Any quick fixes? never F'd around with a thermo before but its kind of cool having my car temp way down

Do you think the coolant temp sensor took a dump on you?

No.
Not coolant temp sensor but the temp gauge sensor is going bad, or a loose connector.

What did you recently have done to it?
Does it only go "C" when you are on it?

recent headgasket install (torn down head decked and milled). 100 miles since then car is running great with the exception of the high idle. no smoke or coolant smell

Is the coolant temp sensor a common problem? would the temp sensor be the same issue if an AEM reads everything being fine including coolant temp, but gauge cluster reads over the maximum H level.

i've been lazy to mention but i'm having a similar but opposite problem that i could use some help on.

my temp gauge is maxed, past the H. All the time. As soon as I turn the car on it jumps past the H. I haven't had the time or money to look into it lately.

It began happening about a month and a half ago. Scared the hell out of me so I took it into mitsu and they took a look at my car and said they wouldn't be able to touch it since I'm so well modded. Luckily one of the mech's had some pity on me and the GM was out of town so he looked into it anyhow. He took some heat gun to it where he points a red laser at parts of the car and it tells the temps. he checked all over. the hoses, the raditor, he opened the cap and checked the fluid in the radiator and he said it's definitely not over heating because all the temp's were normal.

he said it was either the gauge it self was messed up, the electrical harness, or the sensor but he wasn't able to order anything for me since the GM wasn't in town.

Really don't know what to do about it. I've driven it every day with it maxed at H and i don't smell any coolant and it's been fine. Car is still as perky as ever and I have pushed it very very hard during that time frame and the car is still fine. i guess i should probably start being more safe than sorry but you guys know how hard it is to be civil sometimes.

Can anyone make any recomendations for me?

I found this while searching after this thread. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=246106
i think its the coolant temp sensor that sends the signal to the cluster cause the AEM reads normal.

Good luck.

Just so no one gets confused...

Coolant temp sensor sends it's reading straight to the ECU. 2 wire connector.

Temp gauge sensor is the one in the combination meter in the dash. 1 wire connector.
