The difference is one is made from an VIII turbo, and one is from a IX turbo. The VIII and IX turbos are different, and those differences are the same between the 20g-8 and 20g-9. There is absolutely no use for the 20g-8 nor the 6-blade 20g-9. The best turbos to use are the stock IX, 20G-9-5, and 20g-LT.

From what I've heard is that the 20G-8 has boost surge problem, while the 20g-9 does not. I have no idea why, but it's on the buschur racing website.

Not true. 20G-9 can surge. EVOGreen/20G-LT can surge. Many people have it but don't talk about it and choose to call it "normal" or choose to live with it. Some vendors even say that ALL aftermarket turbos surge. It is possible, though, to NOT have it with the proper setup and tuning . . .

The 20G-8 is a POS, I swapped it out with a stock IX turbo the the IX turbo pulls harder and does not surge. If you are going to get a 20G get Buschurs new one. You don't want to get a turbo from turbochargers.com, forcedperformance.net makes the new 20G for Buschur and that is the way to go.......

The 20G-LT has no surging issues, I put the car in 5th at 2500 rpms give it a WoT and it starts building boost..

Sorry, I should have clarified - it is partial throttle surging that I am talking about. . .

Low RPM full throttle I have no problem with - I can make 30psi @2800 rpms in 5th gear with no surge. . .

I wouldn't expect anything NOT to surge at part throttle when running high boost on a stiff BOV. That's not a "problem" per se, because the stock turbo does it just the same. The 20g-8 has a specific surging problem.

You should! It is NOT normal. I'm sick of certain vendors telling us it's normal. This happens at low boost levels at partial throttle, so how high you spike your boost doesn't have anything to do with it. I could set my car to WG pressure (12psi) and it would do it.

I've driven an AMS 2.3/37R running high 30's for boost and it does not have any partial throttle surging at all . . .

Both 20g surged so bad I could not autocross them. I was faster in my stock evo, because I could not "drive around" the surge.
