How to get the transfer case out.

Guys,

I can not get my t-case out of the car. I have it unbolted and separated from the transmission, but I can not get it to move out of the way to get to the bellhousing bolts. It is an 05 model, and any advice will be greatly appreciated. I am officially stuck right now and can not make any more forward progress.

Look at where you have the driver side axle out of the car. There is an intermediate shaft that goes between the trans and t-case joining them together. It is threaded for a bolt. Weld a bolt to a slide hammer thread it in the hole and when you hit it once or twice the t-case will FALL right off of the trans.

You can also use a extention for a 1/2 rachet.

Can you describe, in more detail, the whole 1/2 inch extension concept? Im bout to take my tcase out to send to shep and the intermediate shaft issue has been slowing my motivation.

if you look in the clutch how-to on here, there is a dent puller that has the correct threads for it already.

I just replaced my clutch and like it was said earlier up top, you should get a hex-bolt with the right threads and screw it in the drivers side axel and pull off. If you don't have a slide hammer (recommended, very easy) then you can use a dent puller and whack it out.. be careful not to hit the teeth around the axle... g/l

what you are asking is simple put a jack on the front of your car and jack up the engine itself by jacing up on the front motor mount bracket this should move the engine forward enough for you to pull out the transfer case, to make it easier you can disconnect the half of the driveshaft and slide it out of the tcase, you will need 2 people as the sucker is heavy, if the car is on jackstands the motor is leaning back more then it should as you dont have the front mount there anymore

If I remimber correctly, you can use the extention by putting on the opposite side of the t/c that the shaft slides out of. tap the extention with a solid hammer, not a dead blow until the c clip that holds it pops out of place. then you can slide the shaft right out. you can also install it quite the same, just tap it on the other side.

there is a shaft on either side that the only way they come out is to pull on them, so i don't see what you mean by "tap it on the other side where it slides out"?

correct, only thing I can think of is maybe when pulling the right side axle the inner shaft is coming out with the cv axle. Ive done a couple clutch jobs on cars where this happened, just a fluke I guess. With the right side inner shaft out of the t/c case you could definitely just tap out the left side shaft.
