280 Cams.. help

ok, so I know nothing about cars,

and I dont know if this is even a legit question , but here it goes

I have 280/280 cams with a GT3575r, 1000cc injectors, boot controller and a lot of other supporting stuff.. also a Apexi PowerFC computer.

the adjustable cams are set at the 0 mark right now. any idea what i might want to adjust them to? also , what one is the Intake and witch one is the Exhaust. (front to back?)

i have looked , around.. i am kinda clueless.. i was hopeing that someone can help me.

my goal is to get a little more boost eirlier with a big turbo i know it's hard, but i will scarafice a little top end for more low end.

other mods are 4 inch intake and filter and full 3" exhaust. 255 pump and most just random supporting mods. also i know this might be odd, but stock IC (seems pretty steady but i will change that soon.)

please help.. thanks soo much in advance.

I wouldnt just blindly adjust the cam gears w/o doing some tuning on the dyno to see how it helps you out. The cam gear closet to the intake manifold (back) is the intake cam gear. The cam gear closest to the exhaust manifold (front of engine) is the exhaust manifold.

You have all that work done to your car and you dont know anything about them?

no, I know enough about cars, but i want to learn a little myself. I have done some street tuening myself.. so far it works out. I have had the car dynoed but we never had time to do cam timing.. i am planning on going to the dyno or do street tuning (with data logging and also a Gtec to help out) but i want to get some ref numbers to start with.

Bring it to a shop before you break something.

I agree that you should take it to a shop the first time. They aren't gonna charge you much because the whole job takes about 10 minutes. At least have someone from the local Evo owner's club who's done it before, lend you a hand. There are too many opportunities for major FUBARS on this job.

Edit: A 35R and fast spoolup sort of cancel each other out. You can tinker with the sprockets, but that turbo's strong suit is moving big air at high revs. The resident EvoM cam guru, TedB, had that same cam and turbo combo on his personal Evo. So, you may wanna seek his advice.

well.. ok.. well here's the thing. i am looking for some people who have set there or know where theres are set.. what should they be moved to . i was thinking -1 / -4?

it's not cheep because once they make the change, i have to tune it.. I know a few people who can change them for me, but know nothing about what would be a good number with this turbo/motor combo.

anyone have any examples?

Advanced intake will build more cyl pressure and possibly spool the turbo earlier. -1/-4 would probably make it laggier.

I find it odd about the questions you asked about not knowing cars and which is the intake side and exhaust side when you have the mods you listed. Did you buy the car with the mods already on it? Also, what brand cams do you have? I am assuming you have an evo 8 but like what everyone else said your best bet is to take it to a tuner and he can play with different settings to get what you want. When I had an 8 with 35R with hks 280 cams I set my gears to +2/0 and had good results.
