Stock Differentals.

I just did a search, way too many posts and not sure what exact wording to look for. So I apologize if this has been posted before.

Anyways, my question is, what is the stock differental types? LSD? Visicous (Spelling?)? Open? 1.0/1.5/2? Front and rear please.

Thanks!

Your stock differential on your '03 is an open diff.

2003 USDM Evos had an open diff up front, a viscous coupling in the middle, and a 1.5-way clutch-type limited slip in the back. 2004 models were the same, except that RS's received a geared torque-sensitive differential in the front. All 2005+ USDM Evos have the front geared torque-sensitive differential and the clutch-type rear, but instead of the viscous center they have ACD, which is an electronically controlled clutch center differential.

2003 EVOs have the following:
Front: Open
Center: Viscous
Rear: Clutch type LSD

2004 EVOs are the same as 03 except the RS model which has a helical front LSD

2005 + EVOs have the following:
Front: Helical LSD
Center: Hydrolic clutch type controlled by the ACD
Rear: Clutch type LSD

You can never go wrong with a RalliArt or a Quaife on the front open diff.

Quick question.

What's the best type of diff to use with AWD? 2 produces a lot of understeer, so maybe 1.5?

Ok, Info here is great..But on the open differential in the frt-- I translate this to mean there is really only one drive wheel in the frt? (likely the rt)? Any one care to confirm. I am questioning this as this wouldn't be AWD by definition..Just checking and it may be a symantic issue all around..Who wants to jump in here?

Yes it does three wheel with an open differential but only when traction is needed. If you were to put the car on a lift and drive, all 4 wheels would spin.

With an open front differential three wheel drive would occur only when one front tire had no traction - an unlikely occurrence on dry pavement.
