Valve lifter tick? Do a search on youtube and see if its the same sound as youre experiencing. If it is, get new lifters or bore your current ones slightly.

It seems I have heard a fair amount about lifter rattle in the EVO's ....

Some say that after changing their oil it goes away but comes back in a while. This sounds like the oil is Shearing which is a problem with the oil and not holding up to peformance engines and/or driving habits.

If you have this problem, and it seems to be cured for a while after an oil change, feel free to contact me and we can explore some other avenues of lubrication for you.

With stock cams I would say it's your injectors. If you try using a stethescope (screwdiver) on the valve cover, then on the injectors, you'll find the ticking coming from the injectors. totally normal.

the ticking could also be an exhaust leak. check for a leak near the motor

I feel you on this man. I listen waaaay to closely for sounds coming from the car. Im just so paranoid when it comes to this car. And I do too also hear ticking coming from the injector area when I pop my hood up. I dont hear it as much when its closed and im right next to the hood, but when its up I can def. hear it. I also feel worried a bit about this sound so anyways im coming up to my first oil change and only place close by that can do it is Mitsubishi. So while im there getting my oil changed ill have them take a look at that sound and see if its normal or not.

I am the same way! I some times here a ticking/tapping and I'll take an extra look, check the oil. I think it's pretty normal.
