I've done my searching and have read countless threads and am completely mis-directed. Now I felt the need to replace my stock IX plugs, and after reading and through research I opted for the NGK BPR7ES plugs. Now it seems that those plugs are only for the VIII and not for the IX. Now my questions are a) did I totally just fawk everything by putting those copper plugs in? b)what plug besides the stockers (ILFR7H) could I go with? (mods are in my sig)

Are those stock, or one step colder?
Im pretty sure those are colder.

 

Denso sells a IX appropriate iridium plug --- you can buy a set from Nolimitmotorsports. WAY cheaper than the NGK's. I'm running them currently with absolutely ZERO issues.

 

The ILFR7H are stock on the IX motor, just checked em as I put em BACK in 20 mins ago. The NGK's I had were for VIII's and were shorter than the IX plug. I will look into the denso one's as a possible replacment.

well I found very valuable information after I started this thread From what's i've gathered any of these BPR7ES or BPR8ES plugs ARE A NO GO ON THE EVO IX!! I also put these pulgs on my car when I stumbled upon the valuable information. The VIII plugs and IX plugs are different. The length between the nut and the electrode differs by about 1.6 cm between the VIII and IX plugs. There are really no cheap alternatives besides the Denso's or the stock replacements (NGK ILFR7H)

Now for replacing them that's clearly on how you feel the car running?? Do you feel a rough idle or a misfire during higher rpm's?? You should check your plugs at least every oil change to see how they are. After putting my stockers BACK in last night I noticed they were getting more the black side so they are going to need replacing soon but at 11 bux a plug i'm holding off for another couple of weeks lol

 

what makes you think you need to change your plugs already?

 

step colder? are you sure you are an evo owner, it says 7, thats the stock heat range.

 

denso ikh24 are one step colder for the ix's. I was running them when i had the meth

if no meth id put the stockers back in

 

by the looks of them, looking like carbon buildup on them. I mean the car is running fine with no misfires that's why I said I'm going to hold off for a couple of weeks, prob even the winter if the car doesn't give me a problems. Not going to be boosting or any of that crazy nonsense in our lovely NJ-freeze-your-sack-off-weather. lol

 

i have been running these same plugs forever... w/meth and without..... .they work great. Ive tried the ngk ILFR7H and LFR7AIX .... all 3 fit, the denso and the last plug are cheaper than the ILFR's .... I gap them at .024 for no meth and .022 for with. No issues with any of these settings as of yet

 

haha, so which ones did you like better? and how often ya'll changing spark plugs...

 

for my mod level... the 1 step colder seemed to work better.... for your mod level, id say you are ready for them ...
