The one I posted failed at 2400 miles. The guy had it at the drag strip, bone stock, doing 5,000 rpm launches. They said that he told them that he made about 5 or 6 hard launch passes on it and then it started slipping on his way home that night. Kinda makes you wonder why people still try to do this on the stock clutch, huh?
Oh, they also charged him $3,400 for the repair. The flywheel could not be resurfaced (obviously) and all three of these components had to be replaced (along with throw out bearing).

Um.....I was comparing it to the one posted about a page back where the dude said that Mitsu said it was abuse and if he replaced it with an aftermarket setup, that they would push the bit red button and void all his drivetrain warranty. I was just saying that the one I posted WAS abused, where the other one is pretty questionable.

I think the clutch you are comparing to is mine. I can say that I have had around 15 good launches on it which ultimately caused it to fail. I think if you plan on launching on the clutch go ahead and start saving for an upgrade, if not, then I believe the stock unit will hold. Either way you will wear your clutch down on hard launches. Guess you have to make that decision between having a daily driver or not.
Yep, that was the one I was comparing it to.
Of course, Hall Mitsubishi also was charging $36,000 or so for the 4 Evo's that they had there. Silver with big wing, black with big wing, white with little wing, yellow with little wing. Whit that kind of markup, I can see them charging $3400 for a clutch change.
I was just in there for the Pit Pass service because I was in the area and needed to get it done. They were really friendly and had great customer service, but the car prices were really too high.

Replacing mine right now @ 6200 miles, slipping very badly, just started today too. Bought an RMR to get me through the winter... Then the 2.2 monster will be built in the spring..... I do drive aggressively and my car is modded. So I think it would have lasted longer if I was easier on it, and had my car remained stock. But the people having to replace them at 2500 miles and below that is just absurd.
really needs to do something about that.

really needs to do something about that. The Evo that had the clutch changed at 2400 miles that I posted was bone stock. He obviously was not driving properly and was abusing the car all to hell. I would also put money on it that he didn't even let the clutch get worn in before he started launching it. Oh well.
Until my clutch fails on me, I will continue to feel like it is just improper driving techniques. Once mine goes out, then I will say it is Mitsu's fault....hehehe
