We posted the NHTSA info like 5 minutes apart from each other. I think we owe each other a on that one.

BTW, did you disable your AWS on your GVR-4 or what?

I am in the market for a GVR-4 myself as a second car.

Oh well.
Just teasing of course. I just couldn't resist.
Honestly, there are enough people replacing clutches on the EVO that it won't be hard to find people to try parts. I am specifically looking for someone who had a clutch wear out prematurely but isn't trying to race with it or anything. I want to record the mileage with the OE clutch material and compare with our material. Where are you "in transit"? I may be able to find a shop to cooperate with.

I don't want to get into it until I know it really works. Even then, we like to have some secrets.

I am in the military, just came back from a four year overseas tour. Two days after I got back, I picked up the Evo with a grand total of 8 miles on it. I am on leave right now, but I will be stationed in Pascagoula, MS starting on October 15. I will be living in nearby Gulfport, MS and I know of a couple of shops in that area. I also have a friend who was a service tech for Mitsu that just quit to open up his own shop. If you could find anything in the near area (anywhere from New Orleans, LA to Mobile, AL is "near area" to me) then maybe we could set something up. Perhaps you could make some stuff for a high powered Evo, since that is what mine will turn out to be eventually anyway. Save all the "100% stock feel" type stuff for the unmodified cars. Mine will be getting mods, and like I said, probably be pushing 450-500 whp when I am done (Buschur Racing has some cool stuff). If you want to use mine as a test bed for a high strength clutch, then maybe we could work something out along those lines or something.

On a side note, I drove my car an additional 2 miles this morning and have yet to notice any clutch slipping.

I responded to NHTSA last week, honestly thouhg the dealer I bought the car form is really polite at least and asked for all the reciepts for the clutch replacment including my labor time so they could submit it to the Field Engineer. They are at least humoring me and trying to fix my other concerns. They too are not perfect though. The first dealer I went to was not good in any way.

It really bumms me out too. I am a tech for BMW and we all go 100% in any direction to please a customer. We will do anything, yeah, even that!! Now I want some of that in return. Maybe I should have bought another BMW. Too bad they have nothing that runs 12.9 for 33k!!

1300 and no problems , but im not confident to launch it either . Do to hearing and reading all of this stories with the clucth. Not being able to launch the car takes a lot of fun driving it . But also i dont want the clutch busting as well, its the first car that i have (that the clutch ) is not been able to handle the stock power it comes with . Thats the only problem that i see with it , i guess aftermarket like Exedy will be nice to have in the future...

How many cars are designed for the peak horsepower to be delivered upon initial clutch engagement, anyway? I have a LOT of fun in my car, and I never launch it. I think that my driving joys come from things that aren't in a straight line and 1/4 mile long.

10300 miles. No problems whatsoever. Completely stock drivetrain, including the rubber clutch hose and restrictor valve. They are still in place. Clutch still feels great.

Blew mine out at 10500. The dealer wanted $1400 to install new one and after I got escorted out of the dealership for cursing out the service manager I went home and ordered a stage 2 from lancershop.com and got it installed at a different auto shop for $750

We have very close mileage, there......

Did you ever beat on your clutch or what? Just curious. Oh, my car's build date is March 2003.

I thought the whole point of AWD is to KEEP traction and to prevent wheel spin...If people are doing 5,000rpm launches, it's no wonder their clutches are going out...No clutch will handle that, FWD, RWD, specially AWD...I drive my EVO hard as hell, never drop the clutch, 5,500 miles and runs fine...
