i dont understand a clutch is a wear n tear part that warranty doesnt cover(like brake pads) ur transmission is cover by warranty. my clutch is outthere bad i only got 21,000 miles and my tranny went bad that was cover by the warranty im still waitin' for the dealer to handle my car with my new tranny its been a week n a half

I used to think it was a piece of crap because it would slip when I first got it. After that, it worked fine. I put about 50 drag launches on it, 4 track days, 4-5? autocrosses, and it lasted just over 30K miles. I did put a lot of highway miles on it too though. I think it's not a horrible clutch, but it's not a great clutch either. Also, when we are talking about the clutch I think it's really just the pressure plate that needs to be stronger. The ACT (Exedy) disk that went in there didn't look to be a whole lot different construction-wise than the one that came out.

it's an exedy and i agree. i'm only at 8.5k miles right now, but that's since november and i've done 30+ launches and i haven't run into a single problem yet. i did put in a SS clutchline, but i'm not sure if it would make that much of a difference.

I wonder if I'm the first person to put in their 3rd clutch into a EVO 8? 1st clutch lasted 1600 miles. Replaced it with a Mach V motorsports prototype. It was very aggressive and it lasted until 16,000 miles, but I was also much easier on this one. I finally put in a steal braided clutch line and a twin plate exedy clutch. We will see!

i believe the stock clutch is perfect for the STOCK application. it is made by Exedy if i recall, & yes it's the weakest link in the driveline. it seems that most people with clutches going out have:

1) modded their car
2) can't keep their foot out of it
3) do stupid things like 6k rpm & higher launches
4) dump the clutch like a RWD car
5) miss shifts primarily 1-2

my '03 has 10500 miles on it & doesn't APPEAR to be going out. not as crisp as new, but still works solid nonetheless.

19,000 miles on the clock and the clutch is toast. I don't race the car and rarely get it over 3-4k rpms. Now anything over 3k rpm's and the clutch will spin like crazy. I can't even pass a semi on the highway without it slippin'.

Wonder why the STI can drop the clutch without the clutch going out so quick? I don't think Mitsubishi dropped the clutch at 4K when they tested the car! Mitsubishi does not have any problem advertising the low 0-60 time or 1/4 mile time. Droping the clutch at 6k rpms is shaving at least a sec or more from their 1/4 mile time.

24,000 miles and not a hint of a problem. Lit bit of clutch chatter on cold mornings until everything warms up.
