Did Mitsu screw up on the clutch
consider yourself very lucky
i'm at 8.3k and starting to slip between 3500 and 4000 rpm...like it jumps from 3500 directly to 4000 then catches...its weird...but i know its gotta be the clutch going out...i expect i can baby it to maybe 12k miles...then after that, i dunno what i'll get...i here arguments for cheaper ones that do fine with stock cars...and the high performance that drive better and have the light flywheel...still not sure if i want to spend 600 or 1600...ya know?
any suggestions would be nice btw...pm me or whatever...

Buy aftermarket, use an outside shop... Go to the NTSB web site and do an online complaint.....
My clutch went at 8500 in July. Found out about the dealer Mitsu warantee problem the hard way. I was forced to install a stock clutch by the District manager or he said he would void my drivetrain warrantee on the spot.
But! All this said. My Evo is one hell of a fun car!

He had no right to use scare tactics to get you to buy his stock clutch versus a better suited aftermarket clutch.
Oh well....

Ahhg. Read the damn act people. Then if Mitsu decides to **** you over in the warranty department, get a lawyer to draft a nice little letter to them.
Aiight moving along ... for this case in particular, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C))
(c) Prohibition on conditions for written or implied warranty; waiver by Commission No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the Commission if -
(1) the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
(2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest. The Commission shall identify in the Federal Register, and permit public comment on, all applications for waiver of the prohibition of this subsection, and shall publish in the Federal Register its disposition of any such application, including the reasons therefor.

Great advice....
I'm sure the Mitsu District manager will say that I "Misunderstood." him.
Buy the way, sometimes while letting off the clutch, the is a little, bump, jump, or similar strange peddle plat at the top of the travel. This is an intermittent problem. When I tried to get the Mitsu district manager to push in the clutch to feel the problem, he told me he was "only there to judge the clutch and clutch surface. Not give a technical/engineering evaluation of the controlling mechanism." Or some BS like that.
Q1. Could this have contributed to the clutch failure?
Q2. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I got about 13k on the stocker now.. 22K is Excellent though Silver Surfer..
I think everyones clutch is going out because of how ive seen other evo owners downshift. They dont rev match, instead they let the clutch bring the engine back up to speed. Good way to fry the clutch. Rev matching ~200rpm above ideal rpm will keep the clutch disk intact for a long time. I know this isnt a driving thread though sorry..

well most of us are probably going to upgrade the transmission anyways so i view it as a matter of time. ya if i go through 2 clutches before my warranty expires big woop. after that is when i'm going to start to become worried

Huh? The manufacturer has every right to dictate critical parts like a clutch. There are loads of blown transmissions as a result of someone installing a heavy duty aftermarket clutch. Clutches are supposed to go in order to save the transmission. You want to play with aftermarket modifications go ahead, but in arbitration if you claim your aftermarket clutch had nothing to do with your blown transmission, be prepared to be laughed at by the judge/mediator.
