My EVO is running again, with pictures!

Two weeks ago I was dyno'ing my car, as many of you know. While I was in the process I blew a head gasket and didn't know it.

I pulled the car in here while the service department was closed and built two new headers for the car. I found out the head gasket was blown when I pulled it in as it was smoking like mad.

Also, when we took the head off I pulled the engine apart and checked everything out. I was going to freshen it up but at the last minute I decided to pull the engine out and do a fresh aluminum rod engine. Anyway it's all back together now.

Some interesting things happened through this building process. First, my car has had this extremely raspy exhaust note around 2500 rpm forever. I swapped to a 3.5" exhaust with a Burns muffler for testing a few weeks ago and the noise was still there. I put a big Magnaflow 3.5" muffler on it, noise was still there. I tried two bullet muffler and a bullet with a Magnaflow, still there. Well the only thing different on my car than every other car that is here or comes through was the header. Crazy *** thing is it ended up being the header that made this raspy noise. I can't believe it. With the new header the car sounds completely normal and the raspy noise is gone. So that's a freaking good thing as it was very un-enjoyable to drive how it was. Second thing, I got in on a group buy here on EVOm for a HO alternator. The alternator is made by a guy named Iraggi. My new alternator is 180 amps. It comes with a smaller pulley to output a lot at idle. I changed the pulley back to the stock size and installed it. It is absolutely amazing. My car, because of the electric fan and electric water pump would almost die when they both came on at the same time. The voltage would drop severely and the idle would drop. Now with this new alternator when they cycle on and off you can't even tell that they did. I am super impressed and can't wait to see what happens when the car is at WOT. All EVO's drop some voltage at high boost, I am guessing that problem will be gone now. I did also upgrade the main wire from the alternator to the battery while doing this as it's required with a 180 amp alternator. I don't sell these but would recommend it for sure.

Anyway, I posted some pictures of building the header and such before.

Just wanted to give this update and post the pictures of the car all together, dirty, but together.

Looking forward to testing the new header and Tial turbine housing, should get to it next week.

i would highly recommend those HO alternators especially if anyone has any extra electronic goodies like stereo, nav, bunch of gauges, ignition amp, etc...

The cracked block I was talking about in the other thread was in the black car.

Normal Race FMIC, did not change the FMIC.

Never had any power steering pump problems, except on cars that Shiv touched

The water pump kit is around $700.

Damn Dave, I would be all over that kit if it just allowed a full radiator. I can't wait to see if it actually gives you some power gains!

Looks great.. I am sure this is going to end up a production header.. People will be all over this kit.. The design is so simple and symmetrical!!! Good Luck!!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to see what it puts down too. The power, shouldn't change drastically, same turbo, same A/R. Tial inlet is a little smaller or atleast appears to be compared to the T3 rectangular inlet and then the difference in the headers from this one to the FR I was running. Lower i/c pipe is a little shorter, downpipe is about the same.

No way to make this design work with a full radiator, sorry lilrico. It won't even work with A/C.
