Sorry guys the test is done and no I'm not doing a mivec cam test. Do you guys have any idea on how long it takes to do this test? I still have the Greddy easy cams and Kelford 272's to put up. If someone wants to pay for about 60 hours of R&D, provide a built EVO IX that we can abuse and do about 100 dyno runs on, I'd be happy to do some mivec cam tests. Anyways we really don't need to unless the mivec grinds from other manufactureres are way off the EVO VIII grinds, I know what moving the intake cam will do.

Yeah, we charge an extra $80 on MIVEC cam installations. There is definately some more work to do installing that mivec cam.

Would sure add a few hours to the testing, having to change that cam out constantly, on top of testing the effects of different MIVEC mapping on each.

Endless...

Methinks the Kelford chart will validate my belief that these are some of the baddest cams that (almost) no one's ever heard of.

The FP5R's looks very smooth in it's power delivery. Power continues to climb until shutdown. These are pretty impressive cams when compared to those already tested.

Classic example of smooth power delivery that the FP5R displays vs the same power by the S3, but look at the difference between 75 and 95. They both show slight 'flattening' of power at 82, but the FP is less pronounced and actually shows a continued climb through 90+. So far, the FP5R is the winner, even when compared to the Tomei 280. Another classic comparison of smoother delivery vs a slightly higher peak, but only for 2 miles per hour! Even then, it shows a pronounced drop before shutdown. Not sure if that was due to slow off throttle, or the cams.

I have to agree on part of what you are saying. smooth power is deffinatly key to performance and it seams to me the 5R and my S3s are very similar in delivery. the slight differences your pointing out form 90+ and our increases in the 75 range are about equal in my eyes, i don't really see much of a difference between the two different camshaft sets..

but i want to know what the spec's are of the FP5R camshafts for the evo 8 are they the same as the Evo 9?

Wow, Martin lots of work and great info. Do you plan on comparing Tomei 270 procam to stock? Reason I ask, I see under the Tomei 280´s you have not for stock ecu, rough idle.

I have stock ecu with Tomei 270 procam. My idle is not too bad and I know the cams would match up better w/ larger turbo.

The FP 8 and 9 basic grinds are close enough to say 'yes', Sir.

I bet the S3 and the 5R are very similar valve motion curves, twisted minds think alike.
Off the top of my head the 8 5R is 232/231 duration @.050" valve lift .475/.460 gross lift on 106/110 centers.

A .25-.5 lb boost here and there will make a visible difference on a dyno graph, AMS did their best to keep the playing field even but you gotta sort of smooth/avg. them graphs out with your mind a little, think trend instead of raw number.

I was kind of hoping Martin would show the 'other' stuff, to provoke some thought, but I guess ya ran out of time/energy?

once again, if the cam is not listed in the original post we are not testing it. this test is all done and we are not testing any more.
