Ams Evo Cam Test
wow makes me love my HKS 272s even more! And it also suggests to me that my butt dyno was right on par with the chassis dyno used in these tests.
Those Kelford 272s look like a sweet *** set of cams though. Maybe someday...

Awesome, now a whole bunch of people are going to go buy Kelford 272 cams for their cars which have different intake manifolds, different exhaust manifolds, different turbos, different bottom ends, and most importantly different head work from Martin's car. And all of this without any way to properly degree the cams in the first place.

At least in my case, I have an almost identical build to Martin's car, so most of the (educated or pure) guesswork has been eliminated for me.

I just looked at Kelford's website, and I like how they've laid out their cam selections, along with a simple description for each. And $624 for a custom cam grind? Nice!!!

Exactly why I wish someone started a thread on cams for a stock turbo with just standard bolt ons and a good tune.
For all we know all these cams could have completely opposite for a stock application. (Not really but you guys know what I mean)

Yeah, thanks tons for all he hard work Martin and AMS, I am appreciative, just hopeful people will have sense enough to temper the results based on the fact that their car may be COMPLETELY different.
Obviously the semi-conservative cams (HKS 272, BC Stage 2, FP4R, GSC S2) will be somewhat consistent, but the radical designs will vary tremendously on high HP builds.

Looks like the FP5R's made more power up top over the Kelfords, but the Kelfords made better upper-midrange. 55=K+10, 60mph = K+5, 65mph=K+5, 70=K+4,
75=K+1, 80=FP+7, 85=FP+11, 90=FP+6. These are best guess numbers based on graphs.
added: Not sure if the start being 1.4 mph soonerstart helps the Kelford during the pre-spoolup or not, but the Kelfords look good down low if it doesn't.

When people are shopping for cams they really need to consult the engine builder, tuner and cam maker to get the correct choice.
The 272 of ours that Martin tested is the 8th iteration of our 272 degree EVO cam, (no one puts more effort into EVO cam R&D than we do) we decreased the seat to seat duration and added more area at higher lifts and this gave us the balance that we have been looking for (good idle, spool and top end)
Because of the low total duration it also works well with smaller turbos than what was tested here.

I am running the same setup as Martin, the only difference is that I am running a 50 trim turbo instead of the 35R. I am specifically interested in a road racing application ... in other words good power, but not so aggressive as to put excessive wear and tear on my valvetrain (supertech).
