I don't think there's another automotive family quite like the DSM/EVO Community. Even though there's a lot of trash talking done online, most put aside their differences in one weekend to have a memorable time. BR lending CFT/BVP parts is just one of many stories that you'll hear of shops and enthusiasts helping one another for a common cause.

Buschur and Crew: Thanks for another incredible schootout which is always getting bigger and better. Can't wait for next year.

EvoDan: Congrats on getting 445 hp on Buschur's dyno with stock maf/ecu and pump gas. Who says you can't put BR cams w/ a stock ECU? Not bad for a Taxi.

LilRico: Now you know what to expect and what needs to be done to take your car to the next level. Thanks for being co-pilot to the 36 hour trek.

DB: I can't believe you compared yourself to a fat chick: "I make this look good!"

Mike/Cwill: Thanks for the hook up on the gasket kit. I'll be seeing you guys when you get back.

SpoolinUp Crew: Awesome hanging out with you guys again. Congrats on the 2nd place finish. I can't wait to see the 'videos'.

Nick/Phil: Great hanging out with you for most of the weekend. You'll have to come and visit us in Florida with your monster cars. Phil, thanks for dinner.

Shearer: Sorry for messing up your Mack-Daddy vibe.

Caleb: Not bad for first time racing the evo! I'll be up to visit you guys soon.

Jarrod/Nick: Thanks for hanging out with us since we were one of the first ones in town. Jarrod, I got your back.

Big Al: Good chatting with you. "The Joke's on You!"

Florida contingency: Good seeing all of you up there.

Best Western was crazy and met a lot of cool people. We'll be there again next year. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.

I'm sure I forgot something... I'm exhausted.

Oh, last but not least, HUGE THANKS to TeaPot and GasPump for cracking me up all weekend.

See everybody back there next year!

it was great to meet you man. your a real stand up down to earth guy. you made my weekend 100%. and lmfaosh at the tea pot and gas pump. moments i will never forget. and i guess you can say i learned a lot too.. and again. thanks for everything. i cant begin or know where to start bye showing you how much i appreciate everything you have done.

Thanks Al, the people who didnt make it really missed a great event with so many people. This was our first one and i can now understand when i read ur posts about these Shootouts every year that seem to get better and better. We are definetly lookin forward to the next Shootout next year, it will be hard to top this one but everybody comin out strong like this one, it should be no problem. U mentioned passion and boy was there alot of it, no negativity. Your right Al, this needs to be attended and supported every year, so anyone who missed this one trust me u need to come out for next years Shootout.

I have been attending this event since 2003 when the Evo first came out and it has grown by leaps and bounds in that time, this year took a huge jump forward in all respects.

It is most IRONIC to me that several bad apples attempted to organize a boycott of the event and elected to not come, and dispite these efforts the event grew even larger and better. There is no way to hold back the great passion and joy that is shared by us all individually about these cars and the chance to visit such a beautiful and prsitine track in a country setting and have a great day of racing under ideal conditions.

At the end of the day it is what it is, the Shootout is the best day to run your car in the best track with no BS tech rules and aggrevation that we normally endure when we visit other facilities.

I have a serious note. We have all seen what has happend to NHRA sport compact racing, NOPI and others all out of business. Everyone in the community should be comming out and supporting this event every year. Events like this help our sport and help spread grass roots racing. Many drag strip organizers don't want to allocate valuable weekend dates to import events due to poor attendance and revenus. The DSM Shootout is a very rare exception to the trend in our sport of Import Racing.

No matter what it took I was making the trip to support the event and do what ever I could to thwart the protestors. I am very happy to see a lot of other people took time to travel from far and wide to support the event.

Al

toplevel, it was nice meeting you at the race too. Glad we could help you out in a small way with the fuel you needed. Glad to hear you had a good time.

Al, the group of people that were organizing the boycott are actually so small and insignificant that the only peope who even pay attention to them are obviously themselves. The more I had the chance to read the garbage that was posted the more I realized the entire group consisted of less than 20 people.

The bottom line is the event has always been a success and great time and has continued to grow each and every year of it's 16 year history.

This we are doing to make sure it continues to grow:

1. Adding a Monday rain date each and every year. This will help more people justify their long travel time to race incase of rain on Sunday.

2. Allowing qualified vendors in to the race at no charge other than gate admission. This allows specators and racers to get more bang for their buck by meeting vendors and letting them see what is out there.

3. Expanding the classes and modifying the rules as times change to allow different modifications in the classes that are somewhat restricted.

4. Attempting to hold admission prices to the same level like we have for many years already.

Those are just a few things. I'd really like to add either an autocross or a road racing event to the weekend and maybe a tech session. If I could get Norwalk to allow us to use the parking lot for an autocross that would be great. We use to do it many years ago.

I've said it already, but thanks to everyone who came out to support this great event.

.
Whoa that would be awesome. That would make the event much, much larger. It looks like they paved a lot of the grass camping area so there is plenty of parking lot to use!

David, Like I said earlier today when we spoke, this weekend was one of the best I have had in a very long time. Coming in Friday was the best idea yet (thanks vwjeff) it gave me some time to meet the AWD crew and others. Saturday was great from the Trevor sponsored breakfast to everyone who came by 9sec9's trailer to visit. I'm just sorry I didn't stay for the races. Next time I will be well enough to stay for the whole deal. Thanks again Dave. Jim

What a Great event !! Like Jester said the trip was all worth it. Many props to the Buschur family for putting an event like this one. I would like to thanks David Buschur for lending us his own evo x flow meter, if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have been able to run this event at all. It was great to see and meet people that we actually talk to at the forums everyday. Tom and his son Tony(9sec9), it was a pleasure to meet you guys and congrats for winning the evo stock app category. My old friend, Big Al, is always nice to see you. You sir, are a true competitor and a great guy. Jrod we finally meet,it was my pleasure and thanks for always taking care of all the BVP needs.

Cheers,

Victor

It is obvious that the protestors were an insignificant group juding by the huge gathering all weekend at the event and also based upon the fact that nearly every significant player in the business of Evo modification was in attendance.

The same die hard hobbiests continue to make the journey every year who already know how amazing the expereince is and each year more and more new faces join in the fun as the word spreads. Its had to imagine that anyone would deprive themselves of having such a wonderful time to advance the delusions of a few toxic haters.

One of the very cool parts of the weekend for myself was talking with some of the local Police officers and hearing how excited they were to have an event like this in their town, and how proud they were of Buschur Racing. The fact that they close down Main Street for the event is great and its wonderful to see how they roll out the welcome mat to let the car guys take over the town for a day every year.

Victor, I wished you lived closer. Its a shame that I only get to see you every so often. You are one of the greats of this hobby. You have already gone so far and done so much in the Subaru scene, its great to have you involved with Evo X's. It was one of my best moments in this business to have the honor to write the cover story about your famous Big Valley STI for Turbo Magazine. I will always remember our famous confrontations on the track. We are now building the ICS Evo X and hope that soon we can once again sqaure off for old times sake!

Thumbs up

This was my first year attending a Shootout and I had a great time! My dad, brother and I drove my IX from PA.

Here are a few digital pics I took. Action pics were taken from the starting line with my 35mm Nikon, so I'll post them once developed and scanned.

We hope to attend next year with my bro's GT42-powered 2G Talon.

Finally got a chance to get on here and make a post.

First off...Thanks to all the guys at Buschur Racing espcially David. You guys have become great friends and I always like coming up and hanging out. Oh yea....you make a pretty mean Evo too!! Please thank Renee for me.....I love sloppy joes and cold beer!!

Wow...where to begin!

Tom and Tony - good to see you guys again and hangout. Your car makes me so jealous. Just keep it in ESA. I don't mind racing for 2nd place behind the bad bish, but I can't handle racing for 3rd place.

Jim - I wish we could have hungout more. I was figuring we were going to hangout Saturday night, so I made my other rounds during the day. We'll get together for some cold ones soon.

Mellon - It was nice to meet you. Sorry we couldn't talk very long.

Tom @ DI - very nice to meet you and BS for a little while.

Mike @AWDMotorsports - Your a awesome guy. It was great meeting you.

Evolunchbox - next time I'm in the ATL, Collin, you and I need to go out!

VWJeff - good seeing you again and please thank your dad again for letting us stay at his house.

There are so many other people I met and BS'd with, so I'm sorry if I forget you. This is a great event and a lot of comraderie. All the internet BS goes away when people meet face to face and realize we are all the same and we all have the same passion.

I personally didn't have the best day on Sunday. Made my first pass in T&T...missed my 1-2 shift and 3-4 shift. Finally get into 4 and the car isn't pulling like it should. Look at the log afterwards...42psi and 14:1 AFR!!! Found out the 2nd fuel pump wasn't kicking on. So I hard wired it to the battery to solve that problem.

At this point, I was frustrated as hell and T&T was over. First round of eliminations, I go 10.20 @ 142 and take the win.

Second round, I get paired up with VWJeff. My only chance was to get him on the tree because he was running 10-teens all day. I tree'd the hell out of him (0.2 seconds). I see him creeping up on me at the 1/8 mile, bang my 3-4 shift and miss. Try to go back into 4 and find 2. Let the clutch out and the revs spiked immediately...quickly put the clutch back in. Looked at the log afterwords....11,000RPM!! Parked the car and was done for the day....just too frustrated and not in the right mind set anymore.

Drove the car home 3-1/2 hours without an issue. Changed the oil tonight and it looked perfect. Buschur Racing builds some badass motors that can handle some MAJOR abuse!!

OK, I'm done rambling...I was exhausted today at work and need to try and catch up on my sleep!
