Loud Engine BANGING

As I was on my local commute home, I had an a**hole decide to pull in front of me without signaling while I was changing lanes. In my panic, I slammed on my brakes and left my foot off of the clutch. I started to hear/ feel a loud banging coming from the front end of the car. It wasn't the traditional ABS kicking in. It was coming from what I thought to be the engine or transfer case. Any one had some similar situations? Any help would be great.

I was in fifth from about 50 to 5. I would never dream of repeating the sound. It was horrible.

More than likely it was just clutch chatter from the engine trying to pull the car while still being in high gear at low speed. Drivetrain lash makes it sound a whole lot worse that it really is. I did the same thing in one of my other cars, pretty much any manual trans car will do it. I don't think you should have to worry about long term damage though.

I know EXACTLY the sound you're talking about. It's only when you slam on the brakes and the front dives, and you a hit a slight road imperfection. It's happened to me a couple times but only when brakes were slammed on, and it sounds like a huge thump from the front/bottom of the car. I noticed my car does it alot more often and it slowly got worse since I put the parts on, for almost every time I brake/release clutch or roll back on a hill it's a slight thump from the front/bottom. I'm taking it to Mitsu soon so I'll let you know what it is. I'm 99.5% positive it's suspension related (maybe front swaybar?) because it will happen to me in neutral rolling on a hill pressing the brakes, or rolling and my front left/right are on uneven surfaces with no brakes applied.

it was probably your moustache bar in the rear end making that sound.
