Clutch Replacement

My car is at the dealer up on the rack right now with the tranny and everything out for what "should be" warranty work. The service manager told me that he would put an aftermarket clutch in for free while he had everything taken down.

Now I hear awesome things about the Exedey but it's price is near $1000. I would only get the single disc since that appears to be more than enough for my application. I am also looking at the Clutch Master Stage 1 which is about half the price. I wouldn't consider CM Stage 2 or 3 because if I was going to buy that one, I would rather just spend the extra and buy the Exedey.

I do mostly road course racing but would like to do the occaisonal high RPM clutch drop at the drag strip. I dont anticipate having more than 330-350 WHP in the next 2 years or so.

Any clutch experts have a suggestion?

Can't answer your question, but what's wrong with your car to begin with?

Yo Bidness!

Road Race Engineering just go its first shipment of ACT clutch kits, and it's a single disk design (basically a Mitsu that has been redesigned), the pressure plate is around 3100lb. (40% more clamping power over stock). Much more streetable too, opposed to the Exedy kits, and the price is right! Only $490 for ACT kit ... comes with everything except for allignment tool. I ordered mine a couple dayz ago. If you want one, I would call quickly because once Evo-m members find out they are ready, they are going to fly off the shelf -- Dirk Starkson @ ACT has been posting here for a while now.

Let us know how you like the clutch. Are also doing a lightweight flywheel?

evo1--that sounds like a good deal on those clutches, but they will eventually need to be replaced. I would rather just spend the money now and not have to worry about ever replacing my clutch again. However, if for some reason it doesn't financially work out where I can get the Exedey, then I will take a look at those.

What is the "Road Race Engineering" website?

I hear ya ... but are you sure you want a clutch that strong? You could end up breaking other things (tranny etc) if you are not careful.

People will definitely start breaking stuff with a stage 3, like differentials and tranfer cases. I would rather replace a clutch every 50k than a $2000 transfer case.
