evo 8 tubular k member.. whos making one

hey all. i have asked around about a tubular k member for the evo 8. IMHO if made right it can be as strong if not stronger then stock and much much lighter. this would be great for those who are looking to drop weight without cutting up there cars for either drag strip or street and drop a lot off the front end of the car. i am sure it would be pricey but if your looking for one and are at that level ''or feel'' like its for you then price should not matter. i my self am a street car driver. but i do look for every way to shed some weight off the car that does not involve a hack saw.

so my main reason for this thread is to ask if anyone is making one for the evo8 and if so give us your info on it. me and some people/shops i have talked to are interested in one and would like to see one brought to the market. the shops i talked to i will not mention they can chime in if they like. they all agreed its a great product if made right/priced right and there reason for not making one is there not a chassis shop or have acess to one..... but would like it made.

so post up if your interested. my CC ready.

that sounds like a good idea, but i would be concerned about safety

if your k-frame cracks in half you're f*****, and it wont fail at parking lot speeds. im not sure how much lighter you can make it without compromising the integrity of the brace, iirc it wasnt really that heavy when i took mine out last

if it could be done well then this would be a good part to have

A tubular k-member would be stronger than stock for sure.

I would seriously like to know if anyone has made one as well...my front subrame (or k member, or whatever you want to call it) was damaged slightly and needs replacement. Guess I will have to go with a heavy *** factory steel one for now

JMFab has an EVO mock-up car, I know Jim has talked about making them in the past, it would all depend on the amount of interest generated. There have been a few shops who made them in the past for DSMs, never really sold that well as most people aren't willing to pay $1k to save 30-50lbs. Here are a couple threads discussing them for DSMs.

i would pay 1k ''or around'' for one. the dsm's i beleave saved a good 40+ lbs. to me its worth it and here is why. i am at the limit of either hacking my car up or pulling all of its interior out and i refuse to ever do that. so at my level i feel its well worth it for me. it would be great if JMFab made one up for the evo market. maybe you can get Jims attention on this thread???

also the dsm guys i dont think where able to keep there front sway bars. so the tubular k member was not really ment for the street. we need one ment for the street 100% if that was the case.

Wasnt there a post from a shop that was doing one for a 3Si and was going to do them for the Evos? Seems to have fallen by the wayside but on the 3kGT it was going to save like a 100 lbs cause they were doing everything related to the subframe including control arms if I remember correctly.

You might contact DogBoxRacing. It seems to me that the drag car has an integrated tube K member. I am gonna do some asking around see what some of my guys over here are thinking about something like this...especially since I know of a place with an Evo that never moves.
