There are a few intakes that you left out that are very popular. In fact these I would have included right from the start (But I do appreciate all the work you put in)

AEM (one of the two intakes that are CARB legal)
HKS RS (popular since our cars are Japanese!)
Injen (has the intercooler piping)

Remember, all we were testing were air filters, not complete intake systems. Injen intake use the Amsoil filter so that one was covered. As for the others, we tested what we could get our hands on. Before the testing I asked for filter donations from members/vendors, and tested those sent to me along with a few others I personally purchased. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on air filters that I had no use for after the testing which is why we were unable to test everything on the market.

Injen actually uses a brand name filter??? They used AFE filters at one time. Then I heard they went off shore to improve profits.

This is what Oil Doc claims. AFE filters are really nice though, I used to run one of those on my S2000; I checked but they don't make a size that would have worked in this test.

hmmm a definative answer/result would take away any doubt.
is there a plan to have a tune/maybe a rescale with the perrin fitted and test again?

This will definitely be happening in due time. Scheides and myself will both be running the Perrin air filters and will be getting retuned with new MAF scaling this winter/spring sometime. Once that happens, I'll definitely report back with the results.

S&B also makes a good filter. Oiled cotton gauze but unlike K&N they use 8 layers and incorporate a velocity stack. They also claim to filter better than AFE's and AEM's dry filters.

Did we forget about Injen? or HKS? Would have been nice to see the entire spectrum of intakes compared together as for some people - like me- this comparison is useless to gauge the relative results of a filter that was not tested. And by looking at the actual figures, it seems each and every filter, or filterless, application gave different results. This can be applied to all intakes, I assume.

Anyhow, nice job. Too bad this didn't help me.

We tested 7 commonly used filters with is a decent range of foam, oiled, and dry. If there is something you wanted tested it should have been sent it in for testing; we gave everyone the opportunity to do this.

Injen, as already stated a few times in this thread, uses the Amsoil air filter so it was in fact tested. As for the HKS, I do not have one, nobody sent one in for testing, and I didn't feel like spending $140 to get one

Ok, got it. In that case, someone should have let you borrowed the mushroom filter of HKS or the AEM dryflow cone filter.

That is correct. AMSOIL and Injen partnered up in 2007 with the Diesel Pickups and then a few auto's at first. After testing and a 24 HP gain on the EVO, they brought out a pretty good lineup for the Tuner Mkt. including the EVO's.

I think they are high quality units using Aluminum tubing and with the addition of the AMSOIL Filters, are one of if not the best setup going.

I was wondering if you could do the test over, and test each filter at varoius times of the day to see if this makes a difference. Also could you please test each filter at night, with and without a full moon? I would also like to see each filter tested with every possible intake pipe and each filter tested at various humidity levels. While your at it, please test each filter and intake pipe combination at various altitudes. That should do it for now!

Great test, thanks for taking the time to do it.
