Question from a newer owner

I noticed my car has developed a very slight lag or roughness in throttle response when the car isn't fully warmed up. Is this normal? Or could it be any indication of abuse by a previous owner? Could the clutch perhaps be at fault? Does it need a while to warm up to hold on tight? Maybe I'm being over cautious. 32k on the car.

thats normal. If you're feeling brave, the fix is documented in the ecuflash forum, you turn off the cold start timing retard feature.

Change the spark plugs, it worked wonders for my car.

Note: I never boost it unless it's fully up to operating temperature. I might try cleaning the air filter to see if that makes a difference.

linuxman, what is the purpose of the cold start timing retarding. Just want to know before I disable something.

Did some reading on cold start driving the Evo. It definitely seems like other cars are the same as mine. I probably just didn't experience this before because I always let it warm up fully before driving. Thanks for the help. It's a relief.

Far as i know the cold start timing feature is purely for emissions to quickly heat up the cat.

yes if youre impatient and dont wait for op temp, then the car drives super laggy. I dont boost really until it warms up fully

Oh, it might be worthwhile to get rid of that feature then. Since my cat is unusually slender and straight :P. I'll do some research.

evos are rough when they are cold. its just the way it is. give yourself another min to let it warm up, or just take it easy on the car until its up to temp. nothing new, esp for us cold weather guys
