Strange noise when in 1st gear only`

Well I lauched the car hard last night, heard a horrible clunk, clank, sound, felt like wheel hop but I'm not 100% sure. Car drives fine, but the instant you push the shifter (and even before you get into gear) if the car is rolling you can hear this very loud whine coming from the tranny/TC area. Still shifts into gear just fine and it's only in 1st gear that you get the sound. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is I spun a needle bearing for 1st gear on the tranny shaft.

In the meantime, I'd recommend not launching your car anymore.

TC was just gone over by myself, upgraded big bolts, re shimmed, meshed less then 3k miles ago.

Update. I put the car up on a lift today, everything looks good under the car. All 4 wheels spin. Launched the car 4 times today with no issues. Just this whine when moving in 1st gear only.

This issue has been covered, it is the input shaft in first gear annoying yes, worth spending a bunch of money to get it fixed no, I have been driving my car with this same problem for 20k-+ so dont stress it

I tried to search but didn't seem to find the hits I was looking for. So it's the input shaft? What exactly is the issue with the input shaft that causes the sound. I never had the noise before this launch, and I just rebuilt my tranny 3k miles ago due to grinding 4th gear from the previous owner.

Thanks man.. I did some more searching too and yeah it seems "normal" per say but I still don't understand why it just happened all the sudden. Looks like a new 1st gear and input shaft can be had for $275, though I'm really wondering if it's the gears or the bearings on the 1st gear speed gear, that makes a whole lot more scense to to me.

Thanks for the help though man, really appreciate it.

I have the same noise in my 05 too. Its really loud and the car only has 12k miles. I never had this sound in my 06.

The car drives and shifts fine though so I guess its normal.

Well it seems to be a normal thing. After driving a few other EVO's they all seem to do it a bit.
