This is quite strange...I had lock out a few times on my stock clutch, but have never had it on my ACT HDSS setup (stock flywheel ) ....Unfortunately I believe there is a problem with your setup - maybe caused during installation and maybe a result of the flywheel you chose....

Who have you spoken to at ACT ? I have received great customer support from them....Sorry you are having issues...

For the record i have a ACT clutch installed in my car by TTP (bought the car out of Atlanta...then ship er up to Canada) and it works fine. As was stated, it's usually best to stick with the same brand of parts ACT clutch, ACT flywheel, that way you don't run into these problems.

ACT (ACTman) knows this is a problem and has admitted it in other threads.

You don't think it could be a part issue???????? perhaps part quality

Not saying that it is and I'm not saying it isn't......I know of many SPEC clutch plates to blow up on vw's....and than many that don't.

they won't if you have read every other ACT hate thread. First thing they do and the last thing any consumer should do is blame the customer. The blame it on a bad install. Plenty of people have eliminated that factor and guess what it still exists. Also a small portion of people use fidanza clutch's due to the price. Even with stock, ACT and gruppe-s flywheel their has still been lock-out. Every factor besides the clutch is to blame. A new part is blamed every time. I have owned two ACT 6 puck clutch's on two separate cars. First car the car was taken to Billet racing for the install (they install clutch's all day in evo's). The next was installed by myself and a friend who was a mitsubishi tech. I say it is safe to eliminate the bad install factor. I chose the HDG6 because it was said to be less likely to lock-out than any other act clutch, WRONG! Granted a gruppe-s flywheel was used with each clutch. Will I blame the flywheel like other vendors? NO!

We are running 11.40 @ 123 , 93 octane on the ACT HDTTP and have run 10.9@130mph on the XTSS on another setup with methanol.

i can only go from personal experience here. i got 70k miles out of my stock clutch and after hearing the problems with ACT, my choice was clear: Exedy Stage 1. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE!!!! i got locked out of 2nd and 4th at anything over 7000rpm. it was terrible. i hated that clutch. i only got 50k miles out of it, and i abused the stocker a lot more than that one. I switched to the ACT HDSS and streetlight flywheel and it feels like stock. no isses at all. i can run it all the way up to the fuel cut and shift, no issues. it's been a great clutch for me. i personally blame my flywheel for the exedy issues. i used a resurfaced stocker. it was probably warped or something. when i put in the HDSS, i changed the flywheel to just to make sure, and haven't had any issues since.
