When Decelerating in 5th Gear
I was driving back from some training in Ames today and when i am crusing in 5th i let off the gas and coasted. I got a "sounds like a loose heat shield, very light grinding"sound. it doesnt do it in 4th thru 1st. Would that be the dreaded "5th gear syncros"going bad?? the car has 48000 and it is an 2003. I am pretty safe to say it is out of warranty??

5 year warranty so yea u are out. i wouldn't worry about it. prob just ur t-case. mine is loud as hell and it is fairly new, only about 5k miles on it. i highly doubt its ur tranny especially since ur not saying anything about it shifting poorly. that noise is normal. ur fine.
