WOW! Why is it that i have just now heard this about the AEM?! Maybe i don't read enough on the forums?? A year ago the AEM was the best thing u could get for the $ and i had NEVER heard of this problem or i would have never went AEM
I run the AEM on my daily driver EVO that is making 700+whp on E85.... This has got me spooked now! I cant have my AMS block being blown to bits if my cam sensor goes bad...
Is there anyway to fix this issue without switching the EMS or throwing back on my stock ECU and going SD? Will the 12 tooth crank sensor fix it or is it in the AEM software and will freak out no matter what crank gear u have?

However, let me say this, what seperates the men from the boys in this buisiness is not IF your going to break parts and blow **** up but what happens after you break parts and blow **** up.
I say you get er done and we should all head down to visit Mike in Florida this winter for some mid winter racing. Spring time is always too long to wait for me

I have seen two Evo's that have had bad cam sensors with stock ECU's. I don't feel that the AEM is the cause of the sensor failures. We have had a cam sensor fail on the orange car one time. It would spike 12k+ RPM out of nowhere. Thankfully we did not lose a motor due to the cam sensor issue. We replaced that sensor with another used on and have been on that same sensor for the last year without issues. Every standalone (except maybe Motec
) is going to have issues at some point. If they did not then companies would not keep making new and improved versions. When it comes down to it, put whatever standalone you feel comfortable with on your car. Just remember, that standalone is only as good as the person behind the keyboard.

Turbotrix I agree the stand alone is only as good as the guy pushing the keys
I am pretty familiar with AEM as i use it on a daily basis and would hate to switch over as i do really like its ease of use... and well im just plain familiar with it and my car runs like bat out of hell! But my question to you is will the same RPM spikes happen and cause damage when the cam sensor fails using the stock ecu and other stand alone units on the EVO? Or is this only a AEM thing? I would think it would do it on stock ecu as well but ive never had it happen 1st hand with logs to show...
I do know one thing i am going to buy a new sensor ASAP.. as in looking for best prices right now lol as mine is on the original one and about to hit 70K.. 2003 model
PS. Wheres the cheapest place to get a NEW OEM cam sensor guys?

The two stock ECU cars that we saw it happen to were only basic bolt on car. We don't have any data logs on those cars. They were randomly misfiring/stumbling. Cam sensors were replaced on both and they were good as new.

So it comes down to which is the lesser of two evils then.
Options:
A. Run AEM and pray your cam sensor doesn't take a crap
B. Run haltech and pray you don't get bad gas

So are you saying that if u run a haltech that when ur cam sensor goes bad it has some kind of safety mode and there is noway possible of this happening?? Originally Posted by 2highpsi

I'm not done, don't take me wrong. I just don't know if I have enough time left this season to take it all apart, fix it and get it to the track.
The car was running better than it ever has, I should have been video taping it because the difference really is obvious on how the car actually runs, accelerates etc., hard to describe.
Tomorrow morning I'll get with Daniel and see if he can get the entire engine yanked out or if he's just too backed up, as has been the case. I got lucky last time and apparently nothing was hurt other than the head, I hate to try my luck again. Normally something like this atleast hurts the ring seal.

Damn David I am sorry to hear about this. As Jeff said it could always be worse. I know you'll keep at it and as always you have a extra hand to turn a wrench just a phone call away!
I want to see her in the 8's this year. I don't care if I have to rent D42 in November to make it happen ha.
