TBE fail ...

So this weekend , after finally purchasing a downpipe and high flow cat from a member I was very because my setup was complete . As I got the car in the air on jackstands and as I prepare to unbolt the dp I saw that 1) one of the bolts had it's head stripped off , so the stud was stuck in the o2 housing and 2) the dp was welded onto the 02 housing . As of now I'm very angry at the muffler shop who took installed this " stock muffler " on the car , I don't even feel like driving 4 hr. to dallas to go back to the dealership and going thru with this big headache . If you guys were in my position and want to continue on with the modding and install the TBE what would you guys do ? Someone suggested that I just put a new O2 housing on and just chunk out that POS " stock exhaust " but the thread on how to do it looks very tedious and time consuming .

REALLY bad man lol , the current " stock exhaust " is total crap . I blew the cat out on it so when I take off theres a ever so slight rattle from there for a split sec. As of now the parts I have are Titek dp , high flow cat , and a HKS carbon-ti catback . What do you guys have to say about that setup ?

x2. I too would just replace the entire exhaust. The O2 housing is not fun and took me and my buddy easily a solid 8 hours to install mine but I also removed the turbo to remove the o2 housing and then install the new one but I snapped a stud that held the turbo to the manifold which is why it took so long. Just make sure you use plenty of PB blaster and take your time and use all new OEM gaskets and not the crappy gaskets that come with the 02 housings. You also may need to trim the donut gasket for the downpipe to get it to fit onto the new o2 housing.

I also run a test pipe with the oem cat shields welded onto the test pipe. I'd recommend doing the same but I will say if you drive with your windows down, the cab area definitely fills up with exhaust fumes.

Thanks for the advice man , should I go with a ported oem housing or aftermarket? I remember reading somewhere here on the forums that there is one downside , performance wise , going with a aftermarket one

I personally want to go with one , but I got the hfc as a bonus with the purchase of my dp from a member. And the gf said she didn't want the evo to be too loud when the exhaust is on the car

if ur doing a tbe, DO 02 housing. it is so worth it. ebay O2 housing = $50. many evos r running the ebay O2 and r very happy with it.

time consuming job. take the hot side of the turbo off and re tap it for a new bolt. well worth it in the end though.

and if you do replace the o2 housing, please use anti seize on every bolt! I'm running a Megan Racing o2 housing and I got it for like $80 shipped new from a fellow EvoM member.

TBE stands turob back exhaust, therefore you want to replace your stock O2 housing in order to have a true TBE set up. Buy an ebay O2 housing and you'll be good to go.

id get a megan racing o2....

the ebay ones dont like to line up to good so you gotta drill out some of the holes to get everything to bolt up properly. but if you dont have a problem doing that, then save yourself the money and get one. they are almost identical to megan racing
