Installing new Motor Mounts?
I just got my full set of (4) avid motor mounts in the mail, and just having glanced in the engine compartment the left and right mounts seem like an easy swap.. Curious, has anyone done the others and can give me some tips or advice? I will be using a Lift and have access to most the shop equipment I'll need.
You really don't need all four mounts. It will just make the cabin rattle your brain out. I would only recommend the front mount near the bottom of the radiator
But since you asked. the passenger side mount and front motor mount are easy. Just dont do them at the same time. The trans, driver side mount i believe will require the trans/motor to be dropped enough to get it out. The rear trans mount will be a huge PITA.

I did the passenger side mount yesterday and snapped some pics while I was doing it. It's a camera phone so sorry for the size.
Up on the lift.. I lowered the lift to one of the lowest locking positions; so I would be able to get around underit with the jack, but also work in the engine bay with ease as well.
I used a 2x6" board to distribute the pressure from the jack across the exhaust pipe and the cradle... When I was lining up the bolt on the new one I ended up moving the setup to the exhaust/oil pan to get the side up a little more even.
Once the jack was positioned to support the engine from moving without the side mount supporting it, I unbolted the long stud that goes through the center of the mount, then the three smaller bolts that hold the mount to the bracket on the block. Then it came right off.
The old mount was rusty and had a lot of play in the rubber. I could easily move the center section a half inch or more with my hand just pushing at the hole sideways.

Installing the new one was straightforward. I just needed to get the support from the jack positioned just right to line up the mount to the holes for the stud.
Impressions?.. I don't feel a huge difference, but it seems like I have less cabin vibration, and a slightly more responsive ride. I do notice more vibration in my steering wheel and console though. Nothing too unbearable. Ill be doing the driver side and lower/front soon, and I'll take some more pictures for those.

Went to do my driver's side and lower front mount today... well the allen bolts on the undertray were mostly corroded on and stripping so I skipped the lower front and went to the driver's side mount..
I jacked the engine and used the same 2x6" board under the transmission to give some support while it was on the lift. Then took off the battery and battery tray. Then I unbolted the mount's main stud and the four bolts at the base of the mount bracket (one of the bolts was corroded on bad enough that the whole stud screwed out
). Now this is where it all went to ****.. No mattery how low I dropped that side I could not get the mount to come up off the studs and over the transmission. I even unbolted the passenger side mount to give it more drop and still not even close. Eventually I just bolted the original back on.
Has anyone done the driver's side without completely dropping the engine/tranny??

Well. The drivers side I'm not gonna mess with until I drop the tranny for a rebuild sometime this year or if I do a clutch before that. The front one I'm gonna take a whack at this week while I'm under there getting the car ready to ship to Hawaii. The tray needs to come off so I can replace my blinker bulbs right now anyway. I'm just gonna have to drill out the stuck allen bolts to get the tray off... From what I understand, the front lower one is the easiest to do; so I'm hoping it gives me no trouble. I've also heard it has the most impact in reducing motor movement.
