Anyway, I've reassembled/reinstalled everything, pressure tested, and all is ok. It is now dead silent and no bubbles from the backside of the compressor cover.

 

I will be doing this regardless as I'm installing my Headgames race head soon

 

this has happened to me as well. On a turbo from both turbonetics and precision. This is a common problem with many turbos depending on the boost that you are running. I didn't notice a problem with mine until I was checking for leaks in the intercooler piping and boost tested over 30psi, it was kinda surprising how many little leaks you come across in the 35 to 50psi range. This was a while ago I now leak test when I'm done building whatever car and on my own cars from time to time.

This is a problem with all the bigger style turbos on either the S,SP, or H style compressor cover. RTV solves this problem as Ted B. stated. Even with an O-ring you'll get a hiss somewhere.

So I finally bought the RTV & took off the compressor cover to seal it up, but during the removal of the bolts I noticed some "red stuff" on the threads. Is this "Lock-Tite" or some type of RTV to seal against air leaks? Could I use Teflon paste/tape instead?
