I think thats a great idea as well. BMW also has butterfly valves vacuum controlled. I havent found any mufflers that are vacuum controlled. Do you have any links and also are they universal and decently priced?

No, the VT muffler is a straight through design, and offers only one path through the muffler, which is why it's still pretty loud. I'm talking about a dual-path design, where the straight-through path is only open during WOT or near-WOT operation.

I see where you are going with this. That could be done with this muffler with some design changes internally.

I have never seen one opened up, but are the WERKS modified stockers like this?

The VT muffler is not loud my friend its actually stock like quiet. Well at least on a stock cam motor.

I'm gonna make a video as soon as I get my muffler.

For those that got warranty through Dynomax, how long did it take for you to receive your muffler?

On my car, the VT was louder than the Magnaflow, so I guess it really does depend on the car. If you have cams, beware...

Dynomax shipped my warranty muffler the day after I called them. I got it 2 days later. They both go back to Jegs for refund tomorrow.

That sucks Rich! So are you going to stick with the BR slip fit or go with something else?

I have some ideas but no definite plans yet. Jegs wants both mufflers back before giving a refund, so I'm glad I didn't modify anything on them. Back to the drawing board...

No idea.

Just found out a interesting fact, GM was the first to come out with a vacuum controlled valve muffler. The first car to ever have one was a 70 GTO. Sense it was on muscle cars I would think summit or jegs would have them.

Has anyone considered the Apexi ATS (active tail silencer) instead of a new muffler ? For those with canisters

Seen them before. Those look restrictive even when fully open.

Well I called Dynomax today inquiring about my warranty since I havent received the new muffler yet. The warranty personnel double checked and didnt see anything for my name or zip code WTF!! So she asked who helped me and I gave her the name, and I was told to call back Monday because they were off today. I'm pretty pissed I hate waiting for mods and after waiting all this time I have to wait to find out what happened and wait even more...

I have gone through warranty replacement with Jegs previously and still received a faulty item. I told the previous Warranty worker from Dynomax about the first replacement and they said they only needed the original receipt. I'm guessing that's the issue, they probably need the second receipt copy because it might not match the files with Jegs. But she should have still called me since I purposely left her my contact number.

Sorry guys just venting.

When I dealt with Dynomax warranty people, I got an email address to follow-up. I sent them an email same day recounting our conversation and asking them to reply verifying receipt and that they had shipped a replacement. The next day when I didn't hear anything, I followed up again by email and they replied saying they were shipping that day.

I'm really still a bit ticked that this muffler performed so badly. Not just at Dynomax, but at my car. I had high hopes that this would solve my exhaust noise issues without killing power. I don't know what to do now. Selling the car is on the table as an option...

i dont recall reading this but have you tried running a 2 magnaflow mufflers? kinda like the quiet buschur exhaust. i have looked in youtube and there is a clip of an evo running the quiet buschur exhaust and this was really quiet! barely heard it in the car. and the outside sounded a bit louder than stock. you should check it out.

You can always do an e-cutout or boost actuated cut-out. That way you can run the stock cat-back and have stock like quiet. That's what I am doing now, for quite some time actually, and to tell you the truth I almost never open the cutout. I just hate the noise, but of course my cut-out is on the downpipe, so it's very loud. It's a DMH e-cutout, so it opens/closes very fast and is great quality, but you still have to open and close it via a switch whenever you want it, which is good and bad...good that your car is super quiet all the time unless you open it, bad that you don't have the power unless you open it.

A boost actuated cutout may fit your needs a little better. Depending on exactly where you get it welded in, it may not be obnoxiously loud, and it will be automatically triggered from boost. The good side is that you don't have to do anything but get in boost to have the power. The down side is that, depending on where you weld it in, it may be a bit too loud, if it triggers too soon for normal driving. But I'm assuming that you can test different spring settings or maybe restrictors in the boost line to delay opening, etc.

I haven't tried it yet. I may try that next. It's an expensive experiment though. $100 muffler ($110 shipped), plus two SS flanges ($50 shipped), plus welding labor ($100?).
