Project Valve Technology Muffler
I thought we had a review of the revised muffler that rattled with big cams?
At this point,
1, no cams great
1, with cams lousy
1, with cams great
did I misunderstand one of the reviews?

I used a digi camera to make the video so the audio quality kind of sucks. However for a closer feel of the sound tone, lower all your bass, and tone settings on your pc speakers for a more accurate feel. The muffler pretty much takes away all of the bass from the exhaust note. Also note that I have the blox lower front engine mount which adds in some engine bay vibration and motor noises.
I know its too dark to see anything, but I tried to make the clip as quickly as I could.
Start up and idling. Sounds like a tractor but its mostly because of the digi cam I used which sucks in picking up audio. The actual sound loudness of the exhaust standing behind is similar to running stock catback with 3" testpipe and 3" downipe.

2nd rev = 3k rpms
Last = 2 step @ 5,750 rpms

Driving around. Most of the sound is noises from the engine bay and not the exhaust. Listen to how dead silent it is when just cruising. Also notice when I accelerate you can hear the transmission gear, FP HTA green turbo whistle and the road/tire noise. Try to compare random car keys rattling, shifter changing noises to give you an idea of how quiet it is that you can actually hear those things. Best match in sound would be during acceleration = similar to 3"dp testpipe and stock catback. During cruise complete bone stock.

I think the apparent inconsistency is due to the fact that there are cams and then there are cams. Cams like HKS 272s idle very smoothly compared to cams like Buschur cams or, say, GSC S2s or Kelford 272s. I'd say if you have a smooth idling set of cams, you can probably expect things to be okay. If your car has a choppy idle, then you are risking rattling like my car had.
I'm also running an AEM which helped smooth out the cam lope tremendously.
When I was running 272's with a stock ECU and AFC it would lope like crazy. This is a 6 bolt 4G63.
What you hear in BluEVO's videos is exactly what you hear in real life. There is no bass to the exhaust tone. It sounds similar to an exhaust leak on a stock exhaust except the noise is coming out of the end of the muffler.

I have really learned a lot about exhausts by now and how to create different types of tones and loudness etc.... Maybe I should open my own exhaust shop lol.
But one thing that really made a big impression on me with proof now, is that its the damn deep Bass sound that makes the exhaust noises annoying. The deepness just resonates throughout the chassis and hits you inside the cabin and gets very annoying. So even if an exhaust is loud, it could still be passive in cabin as long as its not a deep bassy tone.
With all the bass gone, there is still a lot of exhaust pressure. So most of the noise that you hear standing behind the car is just the exhaust gas pressure bursting out, almost like really fast puffs. Also mixed in with the front engine sound and it sounds a little like a tractor, I guess

Oh I updated the first page post #2 with most of the information learned so far and my pics and video.

I got the 14x6" Magnaflow installed finally in the middle of my exhaust. Altogether it cost $300 with welding flanges on both sides. It helped slightly but my car still is much louder than stock catback plus 3" DP/TP and has a loud bassy drone at 2000-2200 rpm even with the double Magnaflow setup.

I have been keeping an eye on this thread for a while. I really appreciate all the hard work and testing you early adopters are doing. I am a fellow stockish ninja-quiet seeker in a world of melon launcher lovers lol.
Is there any way to fit this muffler where the cat goes? I want to try it but only have an RRE Stealth Catback, and would rather not hack it up until I am sure it won't rattle on my setup. I have a HeadGames Stage 1 head and MIVEC Buddy Club 280s.
I may just change to stock cams and swap catbacks but I'd rather just add it into what I have now. Really like the RRE Stealth and it's very quiet, relatively speaking, but I want more stealth.

the VT muffler might be to big to fit where the cat sits. you can also get flanges welded to it to make it bolt up but the size of the muffler may not alow it to work in that spot.
you can also weld flanges to the muffler and replace your muffler from the cat back system. but i think the rattle might be there especially with the 280's

Another problem is that the in/out are off center.
Does anyone know what is actually causing the noise? Is it the flapper itself hitting something or is there some sort of 'stop' that it is bouncing off of?
