This is what an exhaust system should be.

Also listening to his car, I think that he is using the smaller displacement muffler.

If any one is worried about the valve opening and closing, I have tested this in a stand still with no load. Just hitting WOT revving only around 2k to 3.5 or 4k and the valve shoots wide open no problem instantly.

Okay, didn't really feel like messing with it tonight, but I answered the call and put it on. As I suspected, it still rattles, though less than before. It's easily audible even 40-50 feet away from the car when it's idling. I think I'm going to drive it around a bit tomorrow to see whether it's worth putting up with the rattle for the overall benefit. I'm not sure. But the bottom line is that the rattle is not gone. Just reduced...

did you give some time, I notice that this old style is really loud when cold start and quiets some as it warms up.

Still not thrilled it rattles at all.

With the original one my friend bent the valve slightly and it removed all idling rattle. However it would still rattle only during take off. Maybe you might want to try bending it a little by forcing the valve to over open with a screwdriver.

^^Like he said, does the rattle reduce or disappear as it warms up?

I think there is an internal culprit too. On mine I bent the plate and grinded the little corners that almost touch off.

Got the new one sitting here. I'll weld her up when I get home from the weekend.

I did let it warm up some and it did reduce the rattle some, but in my case there is a heavy lope even when the car is warm.

I notice you have cams. I wonder how the upgraded version would be with stock cams...

Started it again this morning, let it warm up, etc. I was going to take a drive with it to see how it is, but the rattle is so bad at idle that I just can't see keeping it. Plus, I don't think it's that quiet to be honest. Certainly nowhere NEAR stock quiet. I had the stock system on my car as recent as a month ago and I remember what it sounded like. I would still easily get an exhaust ticket with this. It doesn't kill any of the raspiness of the exhaust -- and I have a fairly large Helix high flow cat on mine as well (not one of those 100 cell race cat things).

I shot a video of it though, and am working on uploading that now, so you guys can see exactly what I'm talking about.

What is the part number of the muffler they sent you? 17957 or 17157 ? Check whats stamped on the muffler and not the box.

That sounds kind of weird that its as loud as you mention. Maybe the revision they made taking off too much material on the valve lets sound pulses escape? Any inside muffler valve pics ?

Sorry, guys. I've taken down the video of the rattle. Suffice it to say it was unlivable by a mile.

Wow that rattle is AWFUL....Why don't they design it such that the flap in the 'closed' position is still slightly open such that the flap does not touch the pipe ??? Anything that closes completely will rattle unless the spring is super strong.
