Project Valve Technology Muffler
I read somewhere that someone had tested both (might have been this thread). Only difference is the spring rate. Valve opens with less backpressure, so it will open earlier in any instance. Not desirable if trying to keep the valve closed when trying to accelerate to highway speeds off boost.
If anything, people should be able to cut an access panel and test different spring rates. Or add a dampener spring inside the main spring, eliminate the rattle. Would need to fabricate a bigger panel cover and some sort of temporary heat-resistant buffer, until you figure out your final spring setup and weld it back together.

I'm hoping the lighter spring will allow the valve to crack open and kind of float instead of staying completely shut, then opening enough to bleed off pressure just to slap back against the piping. That's the hope anyway.
I'm also hoping I may get a little of the low rpm boost response back.

Check this out. I decided to open my replacement VT and look at the valve.

My VT muffler didnt sound good at all in original form.
i have a 2.3L, s2 cams, e85, fp-blk......the exhaust sounded like i had a huge exhaust leak coming out of the muffler

on top of that, the flapper was doing it's thing.
so once i got home, i broke out the dremel & went to work.
i initially just removed the smaller top part of the flapper. The exhaust note @ idle sounded a lot better, but not much louder than my exhaust leak muffler. however, the flapper was still very happy, especially after cold starts...
after a week, i went ahead & removed some off the sides & this is where i am currently at. the flapper barely flaps now.

My neighbors say that the car is quieter with the new muffler, but after hearing it from outside; having a friend cruise & then jump on it, i dont care for the outside sound.....
The muffler does the job quieting the car down, especially inside...so it does it's job, but i will still try to looking in other areas....

Did you use extended bits ?. My dremel barely touches the flapper.
I think i have decided to go another route. I sent an email to rep in the warranty dept who sent my replacement explaining trimming of the sides . I want to see if they will take one trim the flapper sides and test it. I sent the video i made showing the flapper play and a diagram showing the issue. I shouldn't have to modify a $100 muffler to make it quiet. I will report back once they reply to my email.
Took the spring off the flapper this weekend. Car responds much better now. Unfortunately the spring flew off, and is now inside the muffler. I only drilled a 1/2" hole to get to it, but now I'm going to have to cut a bigger section out of the body of the muffler to get the spring out. That spring looks to be no joke. the wire is probably 3/16"-1/8" in diameter. Once I can get that out, I can try to find a lighter spring to put in there.
I've read that a few people are experiencing 'tractor-like' sounds with this exhaust (even with stock cams). Is this because the valve makes noise when exhaust pressure increases?
I have stock cams and am getting ready to re-install my stock exhaust w/ 3" dp and no cat b/c I'm not happy with the sound level currently (3" Buschur TBE). What's the consensus on this setup? I'd rather have 'loud' then 'tractor'. Does the muffler flap need to be modified?
Been following BluEVOIX's quest for a quite setup for quite some time. Thank you!
ps. How do you guys feel about running a cutout?

I'm still running this muffler for a little over a year now. Its still keeping things quiet however it does rattle slightly sometimes during initial take off. I can hear it windows down near the garage. Its probably from the spring wearing in or wearing out over time... But for how much it makes the car quiet I am still happy.
As for cutouts, boost actuated cutout setup I do like a lot. Any type of cutout where you have to manually open and close via switch or remote, I dislike.
my muffler flap spring borke or fell off or something, as the flapper just did that, flap. i cut my flapper completely off. i will be installing a new exhaust soon.
IMO, that dynomax muffler is a waste of money & time with that.

So how's it compared with double magnaflow?
I have 1 yr old daughter and Im trying to get on evo scene.
I don't want her to bleed to death when she sits in the back.
Magnaflow a lot louder?

Check out the varex muffler
When it's open it's louder than any exhaust I have every own, but when it's closed it like the car is not even on. sometimes I have to check by steping on the gas to rev it up

Well to update. My VT muffler after a year now, has started to rattle a little during start up and sometimes from a slow initial take off from a dead stop. I think what I will do now is make 3" exhaust setup and integrate it to an OEM muffler and then use a boost activated cutout right behind the oem muffler. Similar to or most likely exactly how a member here did it.
Comparison to double magnaflow is night and day. The double magnaflow is not obnoxiously loud, but it is not stock quiet. Vt muffler offers the stock quietness that I seek.
The Varex muffler is manual operative. A lot of us dislike having to have to push a button for it to open then push it again to close. We prefer something instantaneous controlled by throttle or boost.

Thanks for reply
Seems like costly option
