EvoScan is logging rpms when cranking. I know the sensor is good.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss. So far:

Disabled the immobilizer
Swapped Cams sensors (intake<---->exhaust) and back
Turned exhaust cam sensor pickup
Each coil has spark
Fuel gushes out of the return line when cranking
Each injector has 13v
EvoScan is picking up an RPM signal so the Crank Angle Sensor is working
Crank Angle Pickup Plate is facing the right direction
There are no SES lights on.
I even started fluid directly into the open butterfly and I didn't have a single stutter.
I tried burning some of the gas that came out of the return line. It burns readily. That plus trying the starter fuel makes me pretty certain it's not a bad gas issue.

I'm running out of options. The next thing to do is a compression test. I'm worried about what I'm going to find.

Acree,

Cross post this in the NTEC forum. Maybe someone there can give you some ideas. I know I totally forgot about this thread until you started posting in the "I like my new..." thread in there. I'm thinking maybe not a lot of guys are subscribed to this thread...

are the tops of the pistons wet after cranking? i.e. are the injectors actually firing?
is there any other reason why the spark would be out of order?

Did you clay the engine as we discussed before final assembly sir? If so the shortblock and cylinder head are most certainly sound. I will see if anyone here has any ideas.

I'm thinking it's more likely its a timing issue. Even if the injectors weren't spraying, the starter fluid would have given the engine some kind of life. But if the spark is occurring on the exhaust up stroke and not the compression upstroke, then obviously there would be an issue. But I've already checked the exhaust cam angle sensor. With the cam at TDC, and looking at the sensor from the driver side fender, the small tab is pointing towards 10-11 oclock. I've been told this is the correct spot for it. And I believe the intake cam sensor is symmetrical which rules out the possibility of being installed the wrong way.

Chris, no I did not clay the motor. But I do hear the compression when cranking the car. I just need to get a gauge and verify.

KevinD swung by today and confirmed my worst fears. No compression. I'm not sure it the valves are bent, head gasket didn't seat right, or the wrong pistons got put in, but I'm ready to take a sledge hammer to valve cover.

I guess I'll be tearing the head off this Saturday.

I'm sorry to hear that sir. The pistons were correct and the head was ready to go as well, the only thing I can think of would be bent valves perhaps from a timing issue? Let me know what you find.

Thanks Chris. I'll let you know what I find. Maybe it's a sign. Maybe I wasn't supposed to put the engine together until my Black got here.

do you have access to compressed air?
maybe before you take off the head, you could leak down test it?

but i guess taking the head off should reveal all your problems. sucks to hear!

I'll be borrowing a compression test setup from Kevin just to verify before I take the head off. It shouldn't take more than 8 hours to pull the head I'm thinking. It just really sucks. I was ready to drive the d@mn thing out of the garage last Friday.

Hey Acree,

Maybe we should just move the Newb Modding day over to your house instead, lol!

If you get done with pulling the engine before 7pm, you should come join the rest of us at Bone Daddy's in Grapevine (not too far from you anyways) to eat and drink your troubles away! Oh...and you probably don't want to bring your GF to this one, lol.
