They pulled the transmission and confirmed 3 of the bolts had backed out. A new flywheel is getting put on and the transmission is getting rebuilt.

KevinD attributed the metal shavings to break-in. He said there weren't shavings or chunks in the oil pan, just fine particles. We'll see how the filter looks in another 1000 miles.

When i ran in my car, i used run in oil for my first 2 fills.
One was 10mins on the dyno, another for 1 hour.
They both looked like metallic paint from the run in.
Straight onto Synthetic Motul 300V after that

These "shavings" you have, were they in the filter? mine particles from run in was not visable in/on the filter, it was just in the oil that was drained out.

Cheers, Mike

Damn lucky break. Not bad to go from selling it all to new flywheel and back terrorizing the streets. Congrats

From taking the oil pan off and cutting the filter apart, there no shavings. The oil did have the metallic paint coloring to it Which like you said is attributed to break in on a new motor

For now, I'm going with a local re-builder. KevinD can supply more information. Nothing is getting upgraded, just replaced with OEM equipment. I was having issues with fifth grinding and difficulty getting into fifth and reverse at all speeds.

::EDIT::
It is worth noting, when the knocking first occurred, I pulled the oil filter and found crap in it. It would be more appropriate to call it "metallic paint coloring" as KevinD said. It looked liked a 6 year old poured a cup of glitter in the oil.

Not sure about torque solution but I got the works cable bushings which are a stiff poly that results in a non clunky shifter which you will have with solid metal bushings.Just checked their site nice stuff!

for solid bushings and front engine mount. They cleaned up my shifting a ton from stock.

You cannot beat the metal shifter cable bushings. Might want to consider blocking off that oil cooler during break in as it's going to hold onto a lot of that debris that you are seeing go through the engine which could dislodge later on down the road. After your run in cycle is over hook it back up and send a sample off to Blackstone for piece of mind. On a final note some ARP flywheel bolts might be a worthwhile investment. Good luck with everything man and give North Texas some Hell!

Cliff notes: Built Shep 5-Speed going in.

I plan on doing just that sir. There is a CL63 and CTS-V Coupe that both want a run here locally. I'll be having some fun for sure.

Another change in plans, KevinD notified me the local guy here is delayed a few weeks on turn around and Shep can get it back in 1.5-2 weeks. I decided to go ahead and get the transmission built. Might as well do it while it's out right? The transmission in my car is a stock Evo VIII transmission that English Racing installed after the previous owner grenaded the stock Evo IX trans. I want each gear to be as tall as possible with the stock final drive ratio. Thankfully, every VIII gear is longer except for 1st. Therefore, the new trans will have everything shep puts into their "Street-Strip" build, plus Evo IX 1st and full ISF treatment. All of this plus the solid bushings should make this car a dream to drive. Or at least I'm hoping.

Definitely keeping the stock final drive in. I don't feel like adding another grand to the price tag. This transmission is already delaying my wheels and tires. Still rolling on the stock Enkie's with 225/35/17's all the way around. (Thanks again, to the previous owner)
