Royal Purple has kept their SL formula for most weights because they feel it is a superior formula to what would be required to meet API SM. The change to SM required a drop in ZDDP to supposedly protect emmissions systems but in many people's views it has come at the expense of wear protection.

idk... i love my FP turbo, but i think they had to come up a solution to why some were going and they had to make an answer.. and that was there solution. Its because of the oil.. im not saying they are wrong, but i dont think they r right
You think FP would make an official release on a whim?
Youre overlooking that oil composition has changed in the last 5 years. Most manufacturers took zinc out, which is what steel journal bearing turbos need. I know of several customers at the shop I work at with muscle cars have wiped out flat tappet cams because of the new lower zinc content

You think they are adding these to every new turbo for nothing? If your
oil isn't on their approved list and they test the oil in the turbo your warranty
is gone. I wouldn't risk it.
I see RP on the list tho. but 14 a qt? lol. Why run that when you can get better for cheaper.
