8700 on a long rod. My rev limit and Mikeys have bee 8691 since we put them together. Turbo and valve springs go a long way. 8500 has been the 2.3 (1.5 R/s) forever, like since DSM days of long ago. The GSR is 1.58 and turns far higher than we do. This has been well discussed in other threads like the "to stroke or not to stroke" thread thats not longer stickied.

My favorite street engine is by far our 2.3. I've built all of them but the 2.2's, driven all of them, raced and tuned. If you have a good core and it sounds like you do, the 2.3 is what I'd recommend.
I advertise 8500 rpm redline for our 2.3's. I have not had a single rpm related failure with that rev limit. If you search for Alan Szabo on here he has our 2.3 in his car, it's gone 9's in two different EVO's he owns and has been together for at least 3 years, he runs it to about 9300 rpm. John Shepherd also runs our stroker, he won the shootout this year running consistent 9.60's, it's been in the car for 2-3 years and is also being rev'd beyond what I recommend.
I am building a '32 Ford coupe, it is getting our 2.3 in it.

I've always wondered how long those really last. I guess you can beat any engine to death if you hammer on them long enough, but it just seemed like the life of the average 2.4 (DSM or Evo) wasn't very long. I'd have to think that most people kind of did it the budget way instead of the more exotic ($$$) versions you can get from the top name builders. I really would like a 2.2L or 2.4LR in my Evo, but imagine a 2.3L is more in my budget when the time comes. I'd love to have a 2.1L for maximum revs in my GS-T.

thats my concern. a lot of people rev 2.3's and 2.4's up over 8,500 and assume that its fine because nothing breaks. im curious how many miles these motors actually have on them and how abused they actually are. either way, they are going to wear faster than a shorter stroke motor.
