Quote: SO to go to 2.3 all thats needed is a stroker "kit" 100mm crank. some pistons, and rods and bearings and gaskets and yada yada
dont forget about the work that needs to be done to the block itself.

Quote: on big power 64 blocks (800whp+) has anyone had any problems with the cylinder walls being thinner with the 87mm? what is everyone doing for for the head gasket?
I had issues with a 87mm block at 650 but that was also a block I knew had coreshifted. The current 2.4 in my car has 86.5mm pistons for the just in case. I know being .010" thicker isnt too much, but every little bit helps.

Headgasket is a Cometic, the standard one not the HD. I got tired of waiting for a PE to come in. The other thing is the Cometic is about a 1/3 the price. I ran mine out to 38psi, and we have a smaller bore version on the 1G that is at 45psi and a 75 shot. So far so good

Nice! I can get 86.75mm pistons and rings, but the piston company said getting replacement rings down the road might be tough, im not worried about replacement rings. If it needs rings down the road ill go to 87mm. Im measuring .001" bore wear at most, but who knows how big they will be after they get "straitened out".

Quote: So what should the redline be set to on a 2.4 standard rod with OEM 2.4 crank? That seems as if it has always been up in the air on these forums...
Quote: from what i gather, same as a 2.3L. 8,500 on kill and 8,000 on a daily basis.
150mm rod this is my recommendation for someone that wants it to last. For those that are doing secret stuff or a long rod (and possibly secret stuff) more is possible as long you keep an eye on things.

That's my build too. 9.5:1 CR with a LR MIVEC 2.4 with some MIL.SPEC parts and an FP Black.

I thought this debate was put to rest... I spin my LR2.4 to 8700 and it will hold up just as long as david's "2.3" however, probably much longer!

You can't beat a LR2.4, idc what anyone says. They are also cheaper to build, last longer, make more power, make more tq, and just **** loads of more fun on the street. Give your evo the best motor and stop contemplating anything else.

Call up Aaron at ER and let him set you up right! Just like he did me

I have the LR 2.4 too from Buschur, made some pretty solid power and my max torque came in very very nicely, I wanna say I had 550 at 4500rpm or something like that.

Compared to a 2.3 or std 2.4 the LR2.4 will last longer. It is called physics...

Im assuming hes talking about side angle loading and the wear it causes. Once again though I will say I count myself lucky if my motor lasts so long it fails from cylinder wall wear.

Well I am not sure but I would imagine 100k would be a good point before you start losing compression. but thats just a guess. Seems reasonable to me.

I will have the motor torn down again by that point anyways I'm sure.

LR2.4 w/ FP Black on 25psi

Please show me another car, setup, motor that makes the power/torque and has as good of a powerband as I do. The thing is, you wont...
