For cams on the 2.4, definitely go big. S3s idle well and make the best power on the big motor as long there is enough turbo for it (which you do). The other thing is what headwork is done if any affects how much lift you really need because headflow.

2. Builder Recommendations
From what I've read, it's down to English Racing, Buschur or Map. Would anyone like to comment on why I should choose one over another? All three are great people and they know what they're doing so please be specific here.

I'm running an FPblack on 93 pump (no meth) daily driven, not looking to make huge hp. ~550whp would be more than enough. I'm sure i'll have more questions as i go.
I will say you should do larger cams. The M2s that Mike@AWD had in their 2.4L Black killed topend. That motor loves to breath, here is a graph of going from a HKS 272/280 combo to my custom GSC cams. Nothing else was changed. You should look into getting the GSC S3s.

As far as who should build your motor, I will say that ER did an amazing job on my motor and helped me take the record on the FP Black. To my knowledge I think ER has done more 2.4s than any other shop however, MAP may be cheaper... Aaron @ ER is a great guy and he can square you away if you would like to go that route.

Good luck, you will love your 2.4L

We ran 9.3 still on 1 pass LOL.. I have sold personally 16 2.4L engines in the last 6 months.. 4 of them last month alone.. No idea how many BR has sold but i would guess more than i sold myself for them.. Not sure who sells the most but the Buschur 2.4L has been very good to us..

You did. I would have liked to see that thing break 8s on stock frame. My car will never run low 9s. It is not a drag car, at least not right now. I would hate to have my son sit in the back of my tin can...

Ya I forgot about BR. Ya because you guys and STM sell like 1 million BR motors a year

First, why are you building a motor? Did you blow yours?

Man you aren't far off blkcarbonevo, hahaha, Mike and Emery sell a LOT of our engines, it's ridiculous! Haha. Mike had 4 engines that left today, two of those 4g64 based. He has two more going his way next week.

I do not however agree with the no reason to build a 2.3, on the contrary I say the only reason to build a 2.4 is if you do NOT have a 4g63 core and it's not in the budget to buy one.

DD, if you have a good core, absolutely a 2.3, stroker, best street engine ever.

And you are basing the 2.4 to not be the best street motor because??? I assume bore size?

David, if I assume you are basing that off of bore size I kinda agree, and kinda not... I think a 86.6mm bore (honed) may have problems over 800-850whp with HG sealing but there are fixes to that. The thing is, 95% of the community won't push the 4G64 block to the point that the HG will blow, or split a block etc... That is not to say that you can't run insane timing at spool and increase cylinder pressure till the HG blows, but on a typical properly tuned evo I don't see a 2.4 being a problem till over 800+whp is what I'm trying to say...

I plan to take mine up a notch this summer and see where the motor stands after 50psi

If you have inputs, I'm all ears

Mikey

Mikey most of the dislike comes from the miniscule material to seal the HG... which is why I will not run over 35 psi... hell I don't like pushing it close to 30 on 93...

So, the question is - What makes a 2.4 "unreliable" for DD?

Pretty sure David is not a huge fan of the R/S ratio either...

the question was which motor is the most reliable DD?

Not why the 2.4 is "unreliable"
