If you open an account with Amsoil, the Zrod is pretty cheap. <$6/qt IIRC.

yes. it's possible amsoil's is similar, i have no idea. would need to do a UOA with TBN to see.
I was talking about dominator and you compared it to reldine for some reason.

I really don't care how much TBN is in it. It goes in for the track, and comes out after. I'm not leaving oil in the motor that saw track day abuse. It's too inexpensive to not just change it. Just like the signature series I run on the street/occasional autocross gets changed every 3000-3500 miles even though its "rated" for 25k. Engines are expensive, and we aren't operating in the normal range of a street car engine.

We are working on opening an account with them since we cant get VR1 anymore. If not, I can get Redline or Lucas for now. I run Lucas in my Bug and have had good luck with it. Just tore the engine down after 500 race miles and everything looked brand new.

I know it was unavailable, locally, while Valvoline re-worked their labels. After, I was able to get it at NAPA. This was about a year ago, I think. What was their reason for it being unavailable now? As for shipping to CA, we can't get most fluids, fuel containers, nor certain car parts shipped here. It's ****ing stupid

Its mostly cause they changed who can distribute the oil (or more like who can buy directly from Valvoline). There are now only 4 company's that carry VR1. I know Summit Racing and Keystone are 2 of them. We used to be a distributor, Autozone, Napa, pretty much all the big name parts stores but now its only a select few. So mostly that but also CA doesnt like the ingredients and says its bad for the environment, like nearly everything else. I mean we still can technically get it (from one of the main suppliers) but the price has doubled and we are only supposed to sell it for "offroad" use only.

Yup. Or you can be a dealer for $50/yr and get small commissions back on sales. I buy enough for myself, sell enough that the dealer one pays for itself, and I mark up 15%.

Just ordered up some VR1 through Summits discount site (not available to the public, sorry!). Ended up at $5.75 a quart and they do ship to CA (Summit will ship to CA as well). Not bad I guess. If we end up setting up an Amsoil account, I may try that next time.

Im anxious to see your results! Please post when you have more info. I used to run T6 in both of my VW’s (flat tappet) but there was some concern from other enthusiasts when the new formula was released so I ended up switching to VR1. Mind you, this is without any sample testing...just me over analyzing other’s opinions

I got my results for T6 back already. Ended up having close to 4k miles on it and not 2k like I thought. Results came back good though. Enough if/when my VR1 results come back bad, I know what I'll be switching back to.

wow they almost use zero moly in their engine oil. interesting.

wear looks basically on par with mine, with shorter intervals + track days.

Just wanted to update you guys with my VR1 semi-results. As I said earlier, it runs hotter then T6 for normal driving (which I dont mind since it gets closer to the magical 212° mark). However, at the track, it did just fine. It was 105° out and I never saw over 240°. Most of the time it was around 230°. I am going to do one more track event before changing the oil and sending out the sample to Blackstone. Then we can judge how it actually held up.

VR1 is a pricey, name brand oil. I'm sure you will be very pleased with the results

This was VR1 syn in my built Evo 10 after a track day. 520whp. Saw 280F oil temp on track towards the end of every session.

This is a log from one of the sessions: https://datazap.me/u/razorlab/thunde...-8-19&solo=3-7
