Question Roll off WOT smoke?

So got the FP Black on an tuned on e85...everything looks good until i lay into boost "33 psi" then when i let off the throttle...it farts out a trail of blue/white oily smelling smoke. I hope it's not the turbo crapping out on me or the rings. I'm just hoping it's crankcase pressure and all i have to do is open up the breather system. Car is evo 8 with built block, stock head with hks 272...planning on springs/retain with new cams soon. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks-

You could perform a leak down test to see the condition of your rings and check for in and out shaft play on the turbo to see if its taking a dump on you. Crankcase pressure can make the dipstick blow out and could potentially not let the oil drain from the turbo fast enough which could then push out through the seals. I would start by performing the first two tests and see where that takes you.

Turbo is freshly rebuilt...has minimal up and down play...but NO in and out play. I'm doing a compression test right now...then on to a leak down. Makes me sad...but at least it's not dumping out smoke all the time lol.

Thanks for your input man!

Smoking under decel is a high vacuum situation. Normally valve stem seals or oil getting sucked past the turbo seals.

Bad PCV system/ valve can cause similar symptoms from my past experiences

I'm having close to the same problem but my smoke is more black than white/blue. I suspect valve stem seals or bad PVC as the root cause. haven't gotten around to fixing either as of yet

Well damn...lol. I'm gonna pull the head and look at the pistons and valves. I also pulled the pcv out an ran to catch can...still smokes a little...thinking it's probably the turbo (thank god for warranties)

I posted my problem on JacksTransmissions Forums and Jack personally posted this.

"Ring lands will make the engine have excessive blow-by at idle. You will see smoke and oil come out of everywhere.

The compression results you have sound like a leaky valve due to a condition that is too lean. What is your timing and AFRs like at WOT?

If it seems clean unless you hit the gas, build full boost, and then see smoke when you let off, then that's a classic turbo problem. I would pull the turbo and check for play at the turbine side. I would be willing to bet it is very loose back there and the oil ring is leaking oil straight into the exhaust. If the wrong oil was used, you will see a large amount of thrust play.

Several things can cause this like the type of oil used, the oil feed line, junk in the oil."

Off to the garage....i need a beer damn

Thanks guys for all the input...i'll update with pics/info when i get my head off...no pun intended!
